One of Bam's brown eyes is, in fact, black. When mischief reigns supreme, it positively glows. Dedicated to the dark side; smooth, dark, incredibly delicious as only a Jack Russell with bat wings can be.

bottle poured into a snifter. Active off white head that quickly reduces to a cap, black as oil hue. Nose features slight sourness. Tart apple, cherry, and slight orange taste, somewhat earthy. Light and crisp mouthfeel, finishes to the dry side. Tasty little sour ale. Rated via BeerBuddy

Un-Muzzling Olde Muzzlehatch Ratings, #27. 12 ounce bottle, consumed (I believe) in some hotel room in Michigan towards the end of July, 2008. Typical JP enormous fluffy head topping a dark mocha, nearly impenetrable body...big roasty, dark sour cherry, toasty malts, light funkiness in the aroma...hints of chocolate in the fairly yeasty/bready, light, dry body...stony fruits, again just a light barnyard funkiness. I remember for years trying to get this again when it wasnít distributed in VT; now coming across this rating and having had a few other JP in the last couple of years that I wasnít wowed by, Iím wondering if this will leave me cold on a re-taste, I seem to be one of the high raters on it - and I donít usually love these so-called black saisons. Hmmm. Have to look around, re-tasting pending; but I have to go with my impressions as written down just now.

Lots of sour, raw taste in there. Quite bitter with pine from the hops and caramel sweetness from the malt. A little bit tangy. Very impressive strength of flavour given the low ABV. Well done.

Dark and slightly ruby colour. No head. Aroma is super farmhouse. Taste is tart and vinegary but quite modestly so. Balanced.

Draft - Dark soured malts and cherry. Cloudy copper with a small white head. Dark muddy sour notes, touch of dark fruit and a light finish.

On tap at St. Augustines on Rare Beer Tap Takeover. Copper with beige head. Aroms similar to Flemish ales with cherry, some caramel and bready notes. It is not an original Saison for sure, it is Brown Sour Ale. Pleasant.

Bottle from meijers Lapeer. Pour is dark amber and thinner body with light carbonation. Smooth and more wine-like in feel. Cherry and ester taste.

Dark brown with a white head. Aroma and taste are mildly sour, and not as complex or delicious as Iíve come to expect from JP. $6/12oz

Been working my way through cellarís backlog, my eyes can certainly be bigger than my liver so I have a few. This one was kindly brought up from Buffalo by my sister-in-law for me from Premier. Thanks! (not that she reads this.) Pours a clear maple syrup amber (Canadian Grade #2 to be exact), with a couple of inches of off-white head, that doesnít lace, it corduroyís the side of the glass, leaving a foam lump in the middle. (Now thatís foam!) Lovely tangy lacto nose with a mild grape zing, a touch of soap, and some clear cereal malt. The taste is lacking the real meaty sour I was expecting, but screw my expectations, itís good. Soft fruit flavours balanced with a gentle but pervasive sour bite, caramel malts, and ending with a funk bitterness. Overall really good. That this fella is at a session-level booze is not obvious with all that flavour, and thatís a good thing this bottle is going to go down smooth, and very, very fast.

Pours a blackish/gold color. Aromas of tart fruit, bread, citrus, and yeasty. Flavor is malty/citrus. Leaves a yeasty orange aftertaste.
