Hazy amber/slightly reddish pour, massive head. Cherry, Barnyard funk, yeast, Apricot on the nose. Cherry and spice up front, slightly sour, Barnyard funk, belgian yeast, dried apricot, slight oak, earthy. Fantastic mouthfeel. I can’t wait to try this with some more age on it.

Cherries, raspberries, apricot, and a strong hibiscus note bring about a wonderful sweetness that compliments the tart berry flavors. A bit of oak comes through on occasion. A little sour, some earthy bitterness and funk comes through in the finish.

Claves77 (76) - Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 20, 2012
poured from a 750 ml. started to bubble out of the bottle after opening. far too much head despite best efforts to minimize. Great smell, a bubbyl saison with a subtle something. Taste is smooth on the front of the tongue and then lingers in the back of your throat. Very good beer, one of the best in class, but quite expensive, likely not worth the high price paid.

Tap at the tasting room in Ann Arbor

This is the beer that JP has always been destined to make, the archetype of what JP could and should and can be. It was 99 degrees F when we walked into the cool dark respite of the JP tasting room, and I needed something to slake the thirst. So very glad I took the chance on this one. Utterly characteristic JP sour and brett flavors, but so much more perfect than in any other JP brew, the beauty of seeing potential realized like peaking out of Plato’s cave at the true forms. Tart and rose/hibiscus floral, utterly spectacular.

And then I turned to ratebeer on my phone to see who else appreciated this beer the way I have. Top on the list was a 5.0 from Jeppe, which took me back to my pilgrimage to Olbutikken on a visit to Copenhagen during which Jeppe presented me with my top-rated beer of all time, Blabaer. Reading Jeppe’s story about a bottle of iO and the birth of his son Melvin ( click on Highest Score above to read ) it all came full circle for me in this small craft beer world of good people and perfect beer. One of my top beer drinking moments yet.

Pours an amber brown with a thick head that sticks around. Aroma of funk, that classic JP funk. Taste follows, slightly tart, wine notes, oaky with some sour cherry notes. Pretty tasty, not highly drinkable but nice for a small glass. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
