Sour cherries and an elegant musk come forth first. A sprinkling of cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice follows. Dried grains are also present. The flavour is a little maltier at first than I’d have suspected, full of dark breads and wild berries, but that quickly fades into the sour cherries and soft funk that was to be expected. Spices are easily tasted but don’t offer unwanted dryness. Attenuation feels just about right, enough to stand up to the sour/funk with delving into super-dry lambic territory. Carbonation is very active and tight and there’s a gentle oiliness to the mouthfeel. Worthy of respect, but over shadowed by some of the JP counterparts. hellomynameis (794), Mayer, Minnesota, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 22, 2007 Red color wit brown hints and a tall off white head that leaves a thin blanket of foam. Not a lot in the aroma, just faint spices and some yeast. The flavor is very peppery with a lot of other spices thrown in. Long spice note on the finish. cbeers21 (564), Miami, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 20, 2007 The 750 mL bottle itself looks super cool with an epic illustration of some nautcial myth battle or something...cool. The beer pours dark ruby/brown with booming and persistant head. Interesting aromas and flavor. Sour spice, wheaty yeast, nutmeg scents with touches of cinnamon and apple cider to smell. Also quiet floral bouquets are whispered on the nose. Soft sour citrus/spice, peppery tangy taste laced with coriander, citrus, smoked vanilla and berry. A unique brew and one that is worth a try BuckeyeBoy (1654), Boise, Idaho, USA

Tart and musty. Full bodied. Big effervescence. Apparently it has the lovingly refered horse blanket taste and aroma. Tart and bitter palate. Good, but not great. crizay (1050), Brook Park (was Tampa,FL), Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 17, 2007 Amber pour big white head. Sour aroma with oak, cherries, and just a gueze like scent. Flavor is sour yeast, a lot of oak, some smoke even, but basically a big sourness with light notes of fruit and oak. This is funk at it’s finest and with the classic JP sourness.
