wheninhell (485), louisville, Kentucky, USA Jun 29, 2007 bottle from keg liquors. clear orange amber with a great fluffy eggshell white head that leaves good lacing. great tart apple aroma that smacks you in the face.....but if you dig a bit deeper you will find a fantastic wild farmyard cheese funk (might be what some people call horse blanket) and some toffee caramel and toasted oak notes. bittersweet caramel toffee background with a big tart sour apple flavor up front. oak presence is apparent but nice. light hints of funky cheese and some spice...black pepper and light.......very very light cinnamon.
the finish is a nice blend of tart sour apple covered in bittersweet toffee with some spicy black pepper mixed in for good measure oh and lots of toasty oak........almost smokey coffee like notes.....so interesting. medium body. lively...creamy carbonation. very nice.......very interesting.........i love jolly pumpkin. great beer. MrBendo (1039), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Jun 26, 2007 Hazy amber/orange with a huge head. Very good lacing. Good retention, with interesting foamy shapes. Aroma is brett, caramel malt and oak. Taste was brett and tropical fruits with sweet malt. More sweet than many of their other brews. But it still has the tangy texture. Another fine brew from JP. antzman (313), Clarksville, Indiana, USA Jun 26, 2007 Not the way I wanted to try this one. I dropped the bottle and popped the seal on the cap, forcing the issue. Thanks to my dropping, this one pours a huge off white head. Very fluffy head. It clings to the glass very well. The aroma is a bit sweet with citrus, with a bit of spice. The color is a coppery orange.
The flavor is different. You can taste the barrel aging coming through, with a hint of orange, a bit of grass, with a tart finish. This gets better with more air allowed to it. jimbowood (947), Athens, Georgia, USA Jun 17, 2007 Bottle. Darker than expected. A little watered down. Less flavor than expected, especially given the darker color. drewbeerme (2223), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 15, 2007 750ml, 07 vintage. pours a glowing dark orange with off white head. nose is pretty funky with hint of citrus in the background. flavor seems rather bland and one dimensional. a hint of orange and some hay, sorta harsh charred wood too. mouthfeel is watery. aftertaste is harsh and unpleasant. by far my least favorite JP beer. still after all my complaining, i drank the whole 750ml, and it was tasty, i just have high expectations for his beloved brewery. SamuraiArtist (292), portland, Oregon, USA Jun 14, 2007 Bottle: Color is amber brown with a light head. Some malt and tart aroma. Flavor is at first malty and then a moderate sourness with pretty strong woody oak spice that gives it a dry finish. Skyview (4007), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Jun 12, 2007 Bottle shared by joebrew, pours a hazy coppery golden brew with a light tan head. Aroma is tart fruit, melon, and grassy hops. The flavor is lightly carbonated, some fruitiness with tastes of caramel and toffee. Finish is spicey with some nutmeg and yeast. Nice fruity aftertaste. tytoanderso (1382), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA Jun 11, 2007 Updated: Feb 23, 2008Bottle. Pours amber with orange highlights. Great nose: joebrew’s comment on "starburst like sweetness" is right on. Spicy, rich dry and complex on the palate. Slightly fruity with a wonderful spicy dryness. Finishes quite dry. Enjoyable.
