ogglethorp (882), Ohio, USA Apr 3, 2007 Bottle. Pours a hazy dark amber color with a small off-white head. Aroma is yeast, tart apple, plum, caramel malt. Flavor is musky yeast, pear, apple, oak, caramel. Palate is medium bodied, medium carbonation, bitter, tart finish. Another solid brew from JP. LilKem (1210), Marietta, Ohio, USA Mar 20, 2007 this was a lot like one of the fantome’s i’ve had (the dark summer i think?) lots of fruit, plum, pear, apricot, green apple, and lemon with strawberries. some candi sugar, hints of malt, and floral/perfumey flavors. some very nice funky cheese flavor as well. i like my beers sour and fruity. very good. Radek Kliber (3926), Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), Ontario, Canada Mar 15, 2007 Bottle
Mild hazed amber looking ale. Laced fine creamy head.3+
Sweet mild flower-fruity aromas.
Milder ale, sweet and sour in character. Soft fruity touches. Pleasing beer. Spring is coming!
Ibrew2or3 (2714), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Mar 7, 2007 Updated: Dec 5, 2007Re-rate 11/17/07 courtesy of Quake1028. Pours clear orange copper with explosive rocky tan head and sheet lacing. The aroma is as explosive as the head with tartness on the front followed by some sweet fruitiness mixed with flower pedals, mild spice and wood. The taste actually starts neutral and almost watery. It then becomes tart with apple fruitiness, some floral senses and funk. The oak woodiness is there and rides the flavor from beginning to end.
03/03/07 Sampled at the O-Town throwdown. Pours straw with lasting off white head. The aroma is sourness, dirt and wet burlap. The flavor is tough to pin down. I get some light sourness without really a tartness along with mustiness and dirt. Thin body and pretty drinkable. awaisanen (1279), Irvine, California, USA Mar 3, 2007 From a 750mL Bottle. Fairly transparent, honey-copper colored pour with a small layer of white head. Definitely not the carbonated monster that so many other JP beers are. A pleasant, lightly caramelized malt background supplements a fresh sweet pear and apple fruitiness. Some musky canteloupe rinds and ripening strawberries add further delights to the tart, lightly fruity bouquet. Light to medium bodied mouthfeel with a creamy carbonation. A little on the sweet side for a JP brew, but not cloying, either. Some gently sour, earthy white grape skins start out the flavors, and then morphs in to a delightfully ashy, musky cheese rind character. Some sweaty leather and zest from an aged lemon round out the finish to the palate. Quite enjoyable overall, but a crisper carbonation, fuller head, and drier palate would make it even more so. Thanks, Tom! Dorwart (1807), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA Feb 16, 2007 Difficult to get a head on this one. Thin and soapy. Decent carbonation. Nice oaky and fruity aroma with some tart apples, musk and some sugary malts. Color is a dark amber. Somewhat thin and tart flavor. Slick and oily with lots of oak, some more tart apples, spices, citrus and some light sweet malts. Little flat in the mouth which is very unlike JP brews. Usually lots of fizzy carbonation in the mouth. Finish is tart, citrusy and pretty dry. Light fruit and spice lingering aftertaste. A decent JP brew but I think that Ilike their other offerings better. BigBeer45 (676), Troy, Michigan, USA Feb 5, 2007 Updated: Feb 6, 2007Bottle, pours clear dark red with a few bubbles and some floaties, fragrance of sweet & sour tartness, faint sea side on a beach (thought this was odd and different), pale malt, faint musky, wood and vanilla, dry wine fragrance, sour on the tongue, taste of pale malt, very dry on the palate, little to medium carbonation, light on the tongue, malt sweetness grows as it warms, I found this less desirable then the other JP beers. kramer (2406), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 27, 2007 25 oz bottle, via MikeMac or Styles, can’t remember. Pours a clear brown colored body with a copper glow under a fizzy and foamy light brown head that fell to a patchy film. Aroma is actually alot lighter and more subtle than most JP’s. Light bready malt with a sugary and tart undertone. Very light oakiness. Flavor is classic JP though. A little heftier malt then some, then the funky dry JP house character washes in. A little more oak on the finish than the aroma revealed. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and quite airy. The fitting usual JP fizzy carbonation bursts on the tongue like fireworks. This was great even by JP lover standards. So crisp and refreshing yet alot of substance at the same time.
