darkguardian (506), Florida, USA Jul 7, 2009 750ml. Pours a red brown with a thin beige head. Nose is sour cherry with strong woody notes, vanilla caramel and black peppercorns. Also a straw like note thats a little odd. Fairly spicy up front with sour cherry notes. Big woody creamy caramel in the middle. A burst of suprising hops in the finish keep this one balanced but also keep it from being a favorite of mine. As always with JP, an interesting and well done beer. KnutAlbert (3100), Oslo, Norway Jul 2, 2009 Cherry - kriek-like aroma.
Dry fruit, brett, citrus finish.
Very dry, refreshing. thewolf (5597), Kolding, Denmark Jul 1, 2009 Bottle, bought @ Ølbutikken, Cph.
Pours hazy light brown with a nice, staying, creamy beige head. Aroma has notes of raspberries, brett, light roasted notes, oak, apples and a slight pepperiness. Highish, prickly carbonation, fine and light mouthfeel. Flavour has brett, oak, super dryness, light apple. Some roasted notes in the background with some milky chocolate and grapes. This is the winter beer, morphing into a spring beer. Nice! WakeandBake (421), Greenville, Michigan, USA Jun 14, 2009 Updated: Jun 15, 2009Bottle. My first JP and first Bière de Garde , batch #256. Carbonation keeps it interesting on the tongue. Very enjoyable, don’t share with your promiscuous beer friends, keep it to yourself. Rune (2735), Tromsø, Norway Jun 6, 2009 Bottle, batch 346/348, bought at Ølbutikken and shared with Skinnyviking. Dark amber hue with a filmy layer. Tart aroma with notes of yeast. Rounded flavour of fruity tartness, caramel malts and spices. Quite lively carbonation. Slow building and a bit heavy to drink. Average to my palate and rating (Copenhagen, 17.05.2009).
