3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from AJs. Pours a reddish brown with a small light tan head. Nose is apple, pear, lightly acetic with wood and a bit of funk. Sweet and sour with more apple, cherry, barnyard, oak, earth, soft maltiness underneath and some bitterness. Definitely has the JP flavor profile. Finishes clean and fairly crisp and dry. Nice.

3.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours orange-brown body with thick creamy head with nice lacing. Smells of spicy apple, dark fruit and cherries. Tastes the same with hints of cinnamon and spices. There’s a lot going on here, and it’s all good. Not usually my choice of beer.

4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Bomber at Jerry’s. Hazy, but brilliant brown with modest, frothy, tan head (barrel-aged) / Sour, acidic nose of orchard fruit, caramel, / Medium body, soft carbonation, sour, just a hint of sweetness so mostly dry and woody, solid malts, excellent balance and bitter finish / Flavors of turning apple, cherry, oak, caramel, raisin, rose hip, chrysanthemum, leather, light old sweater / Does it get any better than JP?

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
750 ml bottle to snifter (Blend 2; bottled 2-28-13). Looks good; a cloudy brown with thin off-white lacing. Smells and tastes sweet, spicy, oaky, tart, and a little funky with some light cherry notes and a nice, lively mouthfeel. Seems to have some Flemish qualities to it. Good beer!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Blend 2; Bottled 2-28-2013. Bottle to Pint Glass. 5/11/13. Pours cloudy red-bronze color with a insanely foamy white head. Aroma is long on the farmyard; funky, bitter, sour, earth, basement juxtaposed against fruit notes of citrus, cherry, apple and hints of oak, vanilla, leather. A lot going on here. Taste is a bit more linear; farmyard funk, grass, hay, sourness (not tart), citrus, cherry, apple, earth, oak; bitter and sour funky finish; no alcohol burn. Mouth feel is wet, slick. Carbonation is medium-high. No lacing. Overall, excellent. It’s not so much a beer as it is an adventure. Difficult to eloquate; this is a beer that is better experienced than read about.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
750 ml bottle into tulip glass; Blend 1, bottled 3/1/2011. Pours lightly hazy reddish copper color with a 1-2 finger foamy off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big tart cherry, sour apple, raisin, caramel, clove, pepper, toast, oak, hay, leather, red wine, grass, funk, vinegar, and earthy yeast spiciness. Incredible aromas with great complexity and balance of fruity/spicy yeast notes with moderate malt balance and barrel character. Taste of tart cherry, sour apple, raisin, caramel, pepper, clove, toast, oak, hay, leather, red wine, grass, vinegar, funk, and earthy yeast spiciness. Moderate fruity tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of tart fruits, caramel, clove, pepper, toast, hay, grass, oak, leather, red wine, vinegar, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic complexity and balance of fruity/spicy esters with moderate barrel character and malt balance; with a great tartness/sweetness balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy, slick, and moderately acidic mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an incredible wild Biere de Garde style! All around great complexity and balance of flavors; and very smooth to sip on with moderate acidity. An extremely enjoyable offering.
