Blend 2 Bottled 2/24/10
Tasted on 9/17/13 from a capped 750mL bottle that has been in the cellar for quite some time. Pours dark, opaque, mahogany with an average white head that slowly recedes to average lace. The nose is very tart with tons of lemon acidity, white wine vinegar, a touch of burnt rubber funk, and just a light hint of the caramel malt that is obviously providing the darkness of this beer. The flavor is extremely sour and tart with tons of lemon, wine vinegar (very vinous), a nice touch of vanilla oak, and a very nice caramel malt underlying. The body is medium with a woody, tannic texture, lively carbonation, and a long, super sour and vinous finish. This beer with age is otherworldly.

Bottle, batch two bottled 2/28/2013. Pours clear ruby amber with a small beige head and good lacing. Aroma is light tart cherry, oak, a bit o’funk and some lemon. Flavor is lightly tart, light sweet, lemon, oaky with a little bit of astringency, vanilla, cherries. Medium body, low carbonation. Refreshing and tasty; hints of a milder more sessionable supplication. Light herbal notes develop as the beer warms.

750ml bottle, shared with my hosts at a dinner party. Batch 2, bottled 2/28/13. Mostly clear red orange brown color. Thin off-white head. Couple dots and ropes of lace. Medium to bigger body, more full than you’d expect from 4.5% [was this 4.5%? I thought that’s what the bottle said..]. Smooth, kind of soft lighter carbonation. Smooth and easy to drink. Nice, complex aroma. Good dark fruit. Light cherry. Some fig. Light floral, citrus. Just a hint of spice. Light vanilla, butterscotch. Where I work, this seems to be a favorite among fans of Jolly Pumpkin. Now I understand why. Very robust and complex, and more rich than expected. Nice moderate sour taste, light tart more, really. Moderate sweet. Much haze in the last pour. Wonderful, complex, robust, surprisingly easy drinking and rich open-fermented ale.

Pour out of 750 mL bottle, dark reddish brown pour with white head, aroma brought tart red fruits, hints of vanilla, nice oaky notes in there with a mix of big spice, yeast, slight caramel and toffee as well. Taste is a mix of toffee, dark fruits and caramel into lots of spice, yeast, slight tart lemon, oak, finishing earthy, dry, slightly tart.

750 ml bottle. Pours a hazy orange amber color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have the usual JP funk from their house yeast, grass, lightly toasted bread, mild citrus, some acidity. Medium bodied, just a hint of caramel. Solid beer, but not my favorite from these guys.

One of the best Jolly Pumpkin beers I’ve had. Really funky and weird. Very refreshing. Will definitely be getting more of this.

Appearance: Brown orange color with thin white head Aroma: Musty malty and cinnamon Taste: Toasted caramel malt. Slightly tart with notes of orange, ginger and nutmeg. A bit reminiscent of a hefeweizen Overview: A good introduction to the sour genre as its seems to be a cross between a kolsch and a oud bruin

Bottle @ a recent bottle share... Poured cloudy amber with a thin head. Nice mesh of funk and acid. Good tartness with light spicing and decent wood presence. Nice drinking beer.
