This is a pretty good Biere De Garde, but i think La Roja is a tad better (more balanced). fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA

| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | May 19, 2006 Light, clear red-auburn. Thin, wispy head, barely present. Nose is wondrously good, great promise here. Acidic, lightly oaky, just the right kiss of sourness--this is a great, great smelling beer. The brett is there as well, just a bit of funk, nice balance of the yeast, wood, and sourness, really intriguing. Regrettably, the flavor can’t even vaguely begin to live up to the promise of the nose. First impression is an overly thin and watery beer, very little carbonation, just does not stick in the mouth at all. Very lightly tart, bit like concentrated grapefruit. Some vanilla and oak. Vaguely acidic, but not much going on. After how lovely this one smelled, an incredibly, incredibly disappointing beer. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 14, 2005 Updated: Jun 6, 2006Batch 2, June 2006. Mostly translucent and copper-orange in color with a few bubbles skirting to the sides, leaving wispy lacing tracts along the way. The nose is ensnared with oaken buoyancy, bitter orange peel, coriander, orange & cotton blossoms, perfumey muskiness and peppered citric toffee chews. Flavor is very oaky this time around. Orange marmalade and honeydew cohort with Parisian danishes. Bitter sweetness tells tunes of curacau and coriander. Mild tart acidity meets nectarine Jolly Ranchers. Medium-bodied and damn right refreshing, though exhibiting tamed carbonation throughout. Pils malt authenticity teams with a stale, musky hopiness. Wholesome clementine sweetness comes through in the finish with a sweet humming marmalade on rye afterlife. This is not one of the tannic, brett-bellied brews of Rons, giving ample proof that he can control the bacteria if he so chooses.
Batch 1, August 2005. Pour a hazy caramel brown color with an oily head and some tan dust streaks. Aroma unfolds with anise, caramel, sour mash and orange peel. Quite the alluring cacophony of flavors. Flavors springboard from the aroma, reacquainting ourselves with anise, caramel, peat, grain, sour figs and crushed bing cherries. Mellowed oak keeps the traditionally high-pitched Flanders sour nodes running subtlety and smoothly. Some nutmeg, oranges and caramel in the finish. Bless this brewery. ucusty (1922), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA
