4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled 4/16/2012. Pours moderately hazy orange amber color with a big 3 finger dense and rocky off white head with insane retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of green apple, lemon zest, orange zest, pear, grass, hay, pepper, herbal, brett funk, bread, and floral/yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of hop and fruity/spicy yeast/brett notes; with good strength. Taste of green apple, pear, lemon zest, orange zest, bread, pepper, clove, grass, hay, herbal, brett funk, bread, and floral/yeast earthiness. Good amount of tart earthy spiciness/bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of light fruits, citrus, pepper, clove, hay, grass, herbal, brett funk, bread, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of hops with fruity/spicy yeast/brett flavors with a fair amount of malt presence; with a moderately dry finish with no cloying flavors. High carbonation and light-medium bodied; with a very crisp and prickly mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.7%. Overall this is a damn nice hoppy saison style. All around good balance and complexity of hops and fruity/spicy yeast and brett flavors; and extremely crisp and smooth to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 5/20
Aroma of Brett, green leaves, and citrus with herbal notes. Pours a cloudy copper with a volumous, slowly disapearing off-white head and abundent lacing. The taste is herbal and bitter. Hops dominates the flavor. The flavor is sadly more astrigent than sour. Medium-light body and crisp carbonation. Dry mouthfeel. Overall, drinkable but disapointing from the standpoint of a sour beer style.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750 ml bottle from Binnys South Loop (Chicago, IL). Pours a darker well hazed hue, brown middle is darker and dulled with some copper glow creeping out to the edges and bottom, subtle glow overall. A bigger cakey whitish head is a bit of a slow gusher on popping. Thicker and sticks around well, laces pretty well. Aromas present that telltale Jolly Pumpkin funkiness, wet horseblanket, straw, and some lemony tartness hit the nose. Some barnyard elements meet earthy dry bitter hops on the nose, a subtle spiciness. Not sweet, but a nice nose as it settles in. Initial is dry and bitter, a firm hopping hits the palate with florals, earthy, and a gentle spiciness. Gentle tartness hits, some bready and biscuity malts creep up from beneath. Some gentle firmness in the middle, but still quite dry. The firmer hop profile mixed with the funkiness really keeps this a bit lighter, dry on my palate. Gentle tartness, some soap as we hit the backend. Touches of fruit get covered up again by that hop profile, as we taper out a nice dry and bitter hop profile hits. This beer certainly looks like it should be a bit more full, sweet, and heavy. But the firm hopping mixed with that nice JP funk really works here. Finish is just a touch tart, dry and bitter elements with lingering funk hanging on. Pretty nice stuff.

Delicious, spicy, peppery, and definitely on the refreshing, light side. More funky than sour.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
750ml served in a Duvel tulip.
Batch 1063/1064 Bottled: 04-05-2012
A - Murky brown body with 3 fingers of moundy head slowly collapses into several different textures of foam. Excellent retention with minimal lacing.
S - Fresh fruity esters, green apple, watermelon, lemon, green grass, dry funky yeast, earthy and spicy herbal aromas. Salty wood and white balsamic come out as it warms.
T - Moderate grassy and zesty citrus hops add aggressive bitterness that pushes against a mild grain malt. Hints of berry fruit and tannins coat the back of the tongue. Salty and woody with a dry bitter finish.
M - Moderate prickly carbonation, medium body, dry finish.
Well it’s definitely hoppy. More so in the flavor than the nose. Very complex nose though. Crunchy herbal dryness. The hops are right on the edge of choking all other flavors out. I haven’t had the original so I can’t compare the two. If you feel like a hopped up Saison this should feed your craving well.

Pretty unique! Crazy dark copper pour w/ a huge white foamy head. The aroma is very sour & taste somewhat sour but different & interesting. I appreciate the originality here. Nice & tasty at the low 4.7%.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Noticeable hops up front, notes of citrus, pine... Not particularly sour for a JP, but definitely lingering hop character throughout.... Enjoyable
