Schroppfy (1724), Ohio, USA Feb 29, 2008 Updated: Mar 9, 2008 Rerate-->Much clearer pour, much frothier head, very flowers, spicy, musty, light. Original -->Beautiful pour, dark reddish brown. Pockmarked ecru head, dense and lovely. Soft spice (nutmeg and cinnamon), leafy aromas. Flavors are intermingled earth, some serious flat bitterness (not citric), a little tannic bite, musty sweetness. Pretty darn quaffable. No lactic presence as of now, if you can believe that of a JP beer. Fascinating.
jcwattsrugger (3733), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Jul 7, 2008 750ml bottle @Joe’s NYC Gathering courtesy of beastiefan2k–pours a rocky light tan head with cloudy amber color. Aroma is spice hops, yeast, pepper. Taste is dry, champagne, spice hops, yeast, pepper. Good effervescence, quick finish. jvmiller (251), Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, USA Jul 7, 2008 Tap at Ashleys in Ann Arbor. Has the jolly pumpkin signature tartness. I wouldn’t call this one hoppy, because it has kind of fruity, but there was bitterness there. Smooth, easy to drink. Not your typical bitter in my opinion but good nonetheless. Angeloregon (1488), Portland, Oregon, USA Jul 6, 2008 Bottle from Belmont Station in PDX--Poured a rich amber-copper body with a small wispy off-white head. Nose of sour cherries and sweet, hoppy piquancies. Oaky, nutty, floral, complex and scrumptious with a distinct astringent finish. Very nice beer. kmeves (970), Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, USA Jul 5, 2008 Pours a light hazy copper with a huge tan head and abundant lacing. Aroma is medium sweet, sour cherry, some oak, light duskiness. Flavor is roast, sour cherry, typical JP yeast, light oak and caramel. Medium body, dry finish.
JCB (828), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jul 5, 2008 750ml from Warehouse Beverage, Cleveland Heights. Yet another fine one from JP. This Bam is darker than its parent, but with the same musty aroma and big rocky head. It’s so dry, do delectable, with tons of fizz in it. There’s a good deal of pepper in there, but in this incarnation of Bam it’s rounded out by some lovely fruity flavors. Very distinct and enjoyable.
