Pipper (226), Ohio, USA Jun 20, 2009 Dark amber pour. Watered down pumpkin pie minus the pumpkin bit and leaving just the spicy all-spice and warm subtle cloves. Very enjoyable, not overly sweet due to the spiciness of the flavor. waolsen (1220), Littleton, Colorado, USA Jun 19, 2009 bottle. thanks tim. exploding foam. lost half the bottle before I could pour. hazy copper pour with big lasting frothy head. house aroma is sweet, nutty and spice. very lively palate. sour., doughy. big spice and hints of chestnut. carbonation dominates an otherwise tasty brew. thenick (742), North Bellmore, New York, USA Jun 18, 2009 Tap @ Spuyten Duyvil. Pours a deep orange with a wispy and quickly-dissipating head. Aroma is spice (cinnamon and coriander), nut, malt, and yeast. Taste is roughly the same, with a character that effortlessly evokes the autumn season. Quite a nice beer. thornecb (1737), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Jun 13, 2009 Pours deep blood orange into a tulip. Fluffy off-white head leaves spider lacing as it recedes to foam on surface. Funky mixed nuts and berries soaked in oak aromas. Crisp and tart with sour cherries upfront and a lasting sour herbal finish. Finish turns to sour nutshells after a few minutes detracting from the overall score. Bockyhorsey (2487), Mesa, Arizona, USA Jun 9, 2009 750ml courtesy of Styles. Good coriander spicey aroma hits the nose with some sour fruits. Hazy gold bodt with white foamy head. Flavor and sour fruits with some grain in the mix. Easy on the palate a good enjoyable beer. Thanks Chris. JCB (1716), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jun 5, 2009 750ml from State Line. The pour is a nice reddish brown, with a thick frothing head. Looks like a very lively oud bruin, a notion that returns once you get a whiff of the nice aroma, malts and funk in roughly equal measure (though favoring the latter, cuz it’s JP). The mouthfeel could be a bit more full, but it’s still okay. Flavor is deep and ruddy, earthy and with a dry feel that I reckon comes from the chestnuts (there’s that dusty, nutty quality to the finish). Would love to get a few more bottles of this to age. Another winner from JP. jkaiser (219), Orlando, Florida, USA May 24, 2009 This beer was on of the many casualities for me at beerfest. I was to gone to truly enjoy the gems I had com across. Maybe next time FatPhil (3449), Espoo, Finland May 15, 2009 Updated: May 17, 2009750ml bottle (Pikkulintu, Helsinki) - shared by oh6gdx - thanks!
Deep orange, small head. Bizarre aroma - odd fruitiness and brett acidity, but with a noticeable malt component too. Palate crisp. Orange taste, some dry spices too, old cloves perhaps, and a touch of soap. Sourness doesn’t fit in perfectly. Certainly interesting and well-made beer (though the brett is clearly not spontaneous, and sticks out a mile), but not my style.
