Autumn Fire
Ale brewed with chestnut and spices
To catch a bit of soft radiance in each special bottle, we wait for fall colors to begin their bright and fleeting glow before brewing this wonderful ale under their autumn fire. Gentle amber malts lead smooth caramel notes, gently lapping against a shore of distant forgotten spice. A beer to contemplate and enjoy!

24 Dec 07. 750mL bottle. Pours clear medium brown color, white froathy head. Big head. Aroma of sour, yeasty, belgian ales. Sweet malts. Flavor is of a light bodied brown ale. A+ Hints of vanilla and toasty malts.

One of the best smelling American beers Iíve had in a long time. Very gueuze-ish in aroma. Tart apples and oranges, quite funky and bretty. Like a stinky old cheese covered in mold! The taste is a bit of a letdown after the beautiful nose, basically a tamed version of it. The brett is a surprisingly quiet for JP, while the malt flavors balance the spice out perfectly. Do I also sense a bit of hoppiness dancing with the acidic and tart nature of of the yeast? Hmm. Interesting! The aftertaste is very akin to that of mineral water, which kept me sipping for a long time. Not my favorite from JP, but still quite enjoyable. EDIT!: I went downstairs to finish the second half of the bottle, and found that with the yeast added to the glass itís a different monster altogether. I had to bump the appearance (because the lacing was so freaking beautiful) the taste (because it got SO much more intense), and the overall (because I loved it).

Foxy orange, effervescent. "Autumnal" aroma - wet leaves, brett. Citric flavor (orange, kumquat), barnyard, dry-out effect. Quite refreshing, very tasty, interesting, unique, and very drinkable. One of my favorite JP beers now.

Pours a light amber orange, a bit hazy and some sediment, thick white head that leaves lots of lacing and sticks around for entire drink. Aroma of tart fruits, slight malt, lots of spice, and a little bit of nuts. Flavor is smooth with obvious tart fruit (mostly perfectly ripe cherries), spices, herbs, and a little grapefruit bitterness in the back. Mouthfeel is lively with decent carbonation, slightly slick and then ends dry. Really quite enjoyable.

On tap at the A2 location. Pours a hazy earthy orange with a creamy light brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has traditional JP funk with chestnut and a hint of sweet grains and sourness. Flavor begins with sour fruits that combine surprisingly nicely with the chesnut and sweet grains. Real nice.

750mL. Pours cloudy peach with a thick, thin near yellow beige head. Nose is quite incredible. More funky than other JPs with a lot of Lost Abbey Cable Car character: peach, tangerine, dried pineapple, lemonade, cotton candy. Wow. Just floored by this nose. Hints of acetic sourness and as it warms cinnamon and subtle spice emerge. Taste is very neutral and refreshing. No chestnut and fall spice nonsense. Hints of tea leaves and spices but dominant character is quenching Gatorade with peach and tangerine acid. Super fresh, light bodied, quenching. Fall saison perfection. Only qualm is hints of butterscotch that add fullness and deplete crispness. Slicker than wanted palate. Great stuff regardless. Must have more! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours a slightly enchanted glowing orange. Typical awesome JP head with some of the most beautiful lacing I have seen from them. Aromas are funky candy apple sour notes with spices and vanilla oak. Taste is woody(oak) as well as hints of nutmeg, wild yeast, accompanied by an ultra chestnut tasting finish. Very layered beer, and another solid sour from Jolly Pumpkin.

Hazy orange gold, thin white lacing. Mildly sour nose white notes of cherry, pumpkin, nutmeg and clove. The flavors are much of the same-delicious and complex with only a slight sour note. Love.

Batch 244,245
Tasted on 12/2/12 from a capped 750mL bottle given to me by a very generous member of the beer community. Pours clear copper-orange with a very thick and fluffy white head that slowly recedes to thick, but even lace. The nose is lightly tart with some spices, perhaps cardamom, and a bit of caramel malt with some candied orange peel. The flavor is quite a bit more sour than I anticipated, with plenty of citrus peel, the same spices from the nose, and the malt a little lighter than the nose. The body is light with lively carbonation and a long, sour, and lightly bitter citrus peel and spiced finish.
