Ok, so the joke was that Jolly Pumpkin doesn’t brew a pumpkin beer. Well, now we do. Just this one. Packed with real pumpkins, hints of spice, and a gentle kiss of cocoa to liven the soul. An everyday easy way to fill your squashy quotient. Guess now folks will have to find something else to joke about...

[draft at CBC Pumpkin Beer Festival] Hazy, dark brown in color. Very thin white head. Aroma is musty, slightly funky.. in typical JP style. No real spice character in the aroma. Flavors are quite complex. Very mellow pumpkin pie spices and slight vegetable character blend with some tart funk quite well. Very interesting finish.. best described as ’’earthy’’. Overall, a wonderful approach to the overplayed seasonal we’re all used to.

From notes. Enjoyed at Corbet’s house during a tasting on October 24. 750 mL bottle. The pour is a foggy golden yellow orange with a thick light gray colored head and a good lace as it falls down. The aroma is interesting. There is a light tart pumpkin to it, but it’s got a light fruitiness and then the funk rolls in. There is a light maltiness and a hint of biscuit on the back end. This is not as bad as I thought it would be. Lightly tart, but not awful. The flavor is much of the same. Light tropical fruits start off, leading into the sweetness of the pumpkin and a finish that’s a little tart and spicy. The mouth feel is lighter and syrupy with a bright-ish carbonation and a lingeringly sweet and tart earthy squash. It’s a really interesting beer.
