4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: OCT 31, 2010 Bottle at Beer Engine. Rerate. Hazy amber pour. The aroma is incredible. Softly sweet with a lot of pumpkin spice and a soft leathery undertone as well. Soft funkiness with the spice backing that up. A kiss of mintiness behind the spice and the brett. Softly fruity finish with a touch of soft tartness. Lean body despite the soft sweet flavour. Lingering minerally/minty finish. Really awesome stuff.
Deep golden-amber pour. The nose has a lot of soft sourness and vineous tartness. Softly lactic character and a fairly wild flavour. A little bit of light oakiness as well as some wheaty spiciness. The smell is great but something about the flavour just doesnít sit right with me. Warming brings up a kiss of other spices as well. I want to like this, but I donít really.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cloudy orange pour. Standard sour, lemon orange tart and sour. Maybe ahint of spice, but mostly covered by the sourness. Decent but nothing amazing.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750 ml Bottle. Appearance is a hazy burnt orange color with a healthy topping of sea foam head. Plenty of tart fruit, yeast and pumpkin spice in the aroma. The flavor starts with aggressive sourness leading to notes of lemon, clove, nutmeg and a tiny bit of roasted pumpkin lurking in the background. Carbonation level is relatively high while the finish is dry and tart. Definitely a unique take on the style although itís more like a sour Farmhouse Ale with a hint of pumpkin than a traditional Pumpkin Ale.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
750 mL bottle from Bieropholie, served cool in a tulip glass, shared. Murky deep amber with a thin white rim. Sour, wild, funk, all restrained, metallic note, very light pumpkin spice, a touch of wood, interesting. Medium-ish body, light, playful effervescence. Light sourness and funk, a little pumpkin spice, not much from wood or pumpkin, a pleasant sour ale; dry with gentle sourness, and a somewhat weak finish. Not great, an interesting take on pumpkin ale that could be taken further.

My Bottom Line:
Oak and citrusy funk dominate this Wild Aleís light spiciness, as oranges tickle resurging citrusy tartness and even more oak.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sturdy head of foam covers the misty pumpkin orange.
-This is not as intense as most Jolly Pumpkin sours, which means itís also more drinkable.
-Pumpkin in this beer seems to be irrelevant to the flavor profile.
-This is not nearly as chaotic as I expected it to be (based on what the label said was in this beer).
-Cocoa, really? Maybe in the finish if you really want to look for it...

Good strong ale with slight spiciness, subtle. Caramel color, hazelnut. Reasonable carb. Good mouthfeel, complex flavor, even finish. Very nice, not very pumpkin-ny.

Draft. Cloudy, deep golden body. Fizzy off-white head. Aroma of lemon, cobweb, funkiness, wood, cinnamon, nutmeg. The flavor is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. Tart, funky finish. Light taste of all spice and cinnamon. Lots of spice balanced with acidity.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle shared at HŚndverkerstuene, august 13th 2013. Cloudy dark orange body, small white head. Aroma is funky with cloves and something spicy I guess is pumpkin. Thicker mouthfeel than expected from Jolly, with a spicy yeast taste, tart sourness, vanilla, oak and pumpkin. Good crisp dry acidic ending, with a lasting apple/vanilla aftertaste Excellent.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Aged 1 year (2012 vintage, batch ?): I was really hoping that this would be light on sourness... Something happened in my gut last month and I havenít been quite the same. This ale from JP aged well for such a low ABV. Dark orange with a foamy, tinted white head, it sports some dark sediment that looks alot like cinnamon at the bottom of the glass. It smells a little sour, but not as harshly as youíd expect, with flowers and perfume even stronger than the sour character. Itís warm on the palate, a little fruity in flavor with that same rosy perfume character in the mouth. Fortunately the sourness doesnít weigh down my belly. Itís still sour, though, and tart as well. Light bodied, but full in flavor and matured nicely after a year, this would be pretty good if you enjoyed sours. I used to, donít much anymore.

Pumpkin is so subtle I am not sure I could tell, this is a bit sour - but that not a bad thing. A bit of carbonation adds to the interestingness of this. I was expecting something else, but I like it.
