COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
La Roja is brewed in the Flanders tradition. We blend this beer from oak barrels where the beer has been aging for 12 months or longer. We’ve added 10 lbs. of cherries and let this beer mature for additional time in the firkin. Truly an ale of grace and distinction. La Roja is a beer that we offer year round. Roja du Kriek is a beer that we made special for you at the Great Taste of the Midwest. Mahalo Plenty.

Great Taste, 2009. One of the best aromas of the day, with notes of orange, fig, apricot, and bing cherry. On the palate is plenty of funk, and the beer shows its complexity and the craft of the brewer. Notes of dried stone fruit and red wine vinegar, with a finish of vanilla and toasty oak. Not quite as refreshing on a hot day as the other JP beers were, but this was the most complex among them.

A little too much sharp sourness on this. Pours hazy ruby with OK head. Some sour cherry. Some bretta. Some sour plum. Tap at Churchkey.

Draft to mini snifter at Liberty’s. Pours a hazy orange amber color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have tangy fruit, cherries, vinous, oak, vanilla, some acidity, light funk, the more I drink the more oak comes out, solid offering.

Pour on tap at Crunchy’s, hazy dark reddish pour with slightly off white head, aroma brought notes of funk, lemon, some oak, touch of acetic notes into red fruit, cherry, medicine. Taste was a mix of sour cherry, berry, medicine, some slight acetic into oak, vanilla, slight lemon, funky feet, finishing tart.

Tap at Bierkeller. Murky orangish brown pour with very little head. Aroma is musty and damp. Rotten wood, vinegar, cherry skins, red wine, and light barnyard. Tastes very sour with strong vinegar, tart cherries and oak. Light barnyard show up in the finish. Low carbonation. Pretty darn good and very intense but not as smooth as I was hoping for.

Keg at Sirens 2nd birthday bash at Siren, 07/03/15. Orange/reddish with a moderate beige cap. Nose is jammy berries, musty wood, funk attack, tangy cherries, damp straw. Taste comprises earthy red berries, light spice, cherry skins, tarte red berry, funk, damp straw. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with subtle puckerings. Decent cherrified sour, not in your face, pretty mellow and approachable.

Nocturne (1082) - Cheshire, ENGLAND - MAR 11, 2015
Tap at Siren Festival of Wood. Hazy reddish orange shade. Ring of head. Vinous, fruity, grassy aroma. Taste offers a particularly strong sourness with lots of jammy fruitiness. Cherry is carried through well. Solid stuff but if I wasn’t craving a sour so much it would be a bit overwhelming.
