snakeoilpete (324), Seattle, Washington, USA Jun 11, 2009 Bottle. Pours cloudy dark copper with a nice foamy beige head that leaves a bubbly film and small interpretable pictographs as time approaches infinity. Intriguing smell of oak, sour apple and lemon/lime citrus, cheesy funk, and earth, that the taste and finish don’t quite live up to. The complexity is there, but not the expected bite. Taste starts with a citric/lactic tartness, malty cherries, and minerals, pepper, cilantro subtly make their way in by the end. finol (475), Nacka (Stockholm), Sweden Jun 10, 2009 Bottle.
Pours in a dirty copper colour.
Smells like a wet forrest.
Forrest taste, rough mouthfeel, a bit sour and a grape wine taste. Soonah (900), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Jun 7, 2009 The pour was slightly cloudy, brown with a red tint. The head was off-white, dense and produced some terrific lace. The aroma was tart cherry, wood, earth, caramel and unmistakable JP funk. Cherry aroma took over as it opened up. The taste was a nice blend of cherry, funk, earth, caramel and spice. Well balanced. The mouthfeel was was medium in body with a super dry finish. My favorite JP product so far. LanceUppercut (105), Sweden Jun 6, 2009 A nose of julmust and cherries. Taste is acidic, but balanced, and contains green apples and oak. Tart finish. Very nice! Bukowski9 (89), Piqua, Ohio, USA Jun 1, 2009 Bottle Pour.Light red in color with a decent head and aromas of cherry, oak, and a little spice.Taste was very mild fruits and sweet malt with just enough sourness to balance it out.Good beer. FlssmrBrewAlum (1081), Lisle, Illinois, USA May 31, 2009 750 ml bottle, Blend 13, courtesy of Binnys (Orland Park, IL). Pours a wonderful rusty brown, pretty much opaque with brownish white head, dirty, thick, big and laces exceptionally well. Some floaties, but great presentation. Aromas push barrel: oak, dryness, vanilla, tart funk and sourness, with some lighter caramel malt undertones. Initial is a bit lighter than aromas would present, but still very nice. Oak, vanilla, caramel sweetness but dominant dryness, sour cherries, light funk, barrek take over. As stated before, strength isn’t the dominant feature, but this sure was enjoyable while grilling on a low 70s Sunday early evening. The flavors are intimate, complex, but still easy enough to grasp to session and enjoy without too much thought. A winey feel, the funk takes on a similar feel to other JP brews. This was a great beer, easily sessionable, just a little pricey for that. Cheers! Ljunkan (380), Karlstad, Sweden May 30, 2009 Bottle. Pours a beatiful red/amber color with a mediumsized white head which remains in the glass until the beer is finished. Aroma is funky and oaky with notes of barnyard, gooseberries, cherries, red currant and strawberries. Really nice and interesting with some light coconut actually. Flavour is tart and funky with some light sweet malts balancing the fruity and sour flavours of green apples, cherries, gooseberries, red currant and strawberries. Clear notes of oak, almost some vanilla, and coconut. Amazingly complex and tasty with so much going on in there. Dry mouthfeel, mediumbodied, average to lively carbonation. I love this stuff. Hope I will get the chance to try it again. noncaloric (602), Madison, Wisconsin, USA May 28, 2009 Big thanks to ogglethorp. Somewhere between crimson and amber, with a thick beige head that never fully fades away, leaves plenty of lace behind. Big aroma, tart fruit with a bretty smoothness, does not fade even after repeated inhalations. Flavor leads off with fruit tartness and a little bit of caramel, doesn’t build in complexity but does linger deliciously forever. Brett, some cream soda caramel malts, and a light oak pick up the finish. Medium body, very smooth, creamy, slightly dry.
