BMan1113VR (2758), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA Feb 13, 2009 Blend 5 (2008) thanks to ilovedarkbeer. Pours with a large, light brown head that stays for the duration and leaves sheets of lacing. Hazy ruby colored beer hides underneath. Aroma of vanilla, clove, plum, earthy caramel and some florals. Taste is sour and very floral and fruity with notes of red wine, plums and oak. Very carbonated with a trace of alcohol on the palate, dry mouthfeel. jazzmaster (21), Denmark Feb 12, 2009 Dark amber, white head. Very nice aroma of oak, earth cherries, vanilla and tobacco. Good fullness balanced by a perfect tart acidity. Very impressive. ryanknock (150), San Francisco, California, USA Feb 9, 2009 Refreshing for a red, this one goes down smooth, and avoids the "sweet-tart" aspect that many have. Much lighter bodied, tart up front, and only a mild malt complexity behind it, notes of cherries, toffee and oak. joshwilfong (771), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Feb 8, 2009 medium brown with rather large white head. high carbonation. some fruit to the nose. mild crystal sweetness then a lot of sour bittterness with a finish of oak, that can be a little much at times. a very dry finish. great beer and very unique BrotherGrendel (551), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Feb 8, 2009 A- Cloudy opaque dirty orange/amber hue, huge amounts of off-white creamy foam spill over the glass, large swaths of lacing
S- Sour and tangy fruits, caramel malts, floral hops, tones of oak, spices, and peach
T- Light and fruity sourness (mostly apples and pears) give rise to floral hops and an underlying backbone of caramel malts, finishes dry and sour
M- Light/medium bodied, creamy smooth texture, loads of carbonation
D- One uniquely sour and fruity red/wild ale, taste profile is on the lights side, easy to drink but likely wouldn’t have too much in one sitting due to the fruity sourness elihapa (1034), Honolulu, California, USA Feb 8, 2009 Jolly Pumpkin’s La Roja 2/7/09 (bomber, split during beer tasting. Appeared orange with a frothy head. Aroma has prominent funkiness, with earthy notes as well. Flavor is highly vinous, with a bit of malt, sour green apple, and champagne (yeast?). Finishing palate is allowed to linger on a semi-sour note. JensenTaster (1585), Denmark Feb 4, 2009 (on bottle) Dark amber, small, white head. The wood are very present; like real old, wet wood, niceness. I get hazel, cherries vanilla and sweet tobacco along with the perfect balanced tartness, sublime. Such a huge aroma dosen´t leave much space for taste; the massive use of barley are present, but it´s the sheer aroma that blows me away. GodOfThunder (855), Orlando, Florida, USA Feb 3, 2009 On draft at Redlight Redlight. Though, I have had it in the bottle several times. Pours a more red tinted amber with just a little white head. Oak, cherries, funk and malt are the major flavors. The draft version is fresh and a fruity sour. The funk is a little deminished, but I think this beer actually benefits from that. Very good on draft.
