PhillyHomeBrew (176), Forest Hills, New York, USA Oct 21, 2008 Body is an dark, amber color with only a little bit of head around the outside of the glass. Aroma is fully of cherries, wood, and tobacco. Reminds me of opening a humidor full of cherry cigars. However, it also has a tiny bit of a citrusy aroma. Very carbonated feeling on the front end, but the bubbles are quickly dissipating. The flavor is pretty sour with a bit of a red wine vinegar taste, but add cherries and fruit. crowderm (275), Recklinghausen, Germany Oct 21, 2008 Hazy reddish amber with minimal tan head. Aroma of white wine, vinegar, wood, apple, dark fruits. Taste is pretty similar, but the sour dark fruits and oak seem to dominate. Nicely sour. Mouthfeel isn’t my favorite. Under-carbonated. Tastes like I left the beer sitting out for a little bit too long. Good overall, but not my favorite jolly pumpkin. mcox90 (618), Wilton, USA Oct 18, 2008 2008 bottle. Pours a hazy/cloudy deep orange/amber color with a tannish head. Good lacing. Aroma is sour apple, vinegar, earth, & dark fruits. Palate is medium to light with fairly light carbonation. Taste was real sour at first with an almost vinegar taste. I felt there was a hint of green apple in there. Theres also flavors of grapefruit, dark fruit, lemon, etc. I really can’t describ all the flavors. This was my first sour ale and it was quite an experience, albeit a good one. Big thanks to Mcbackus for sending me this one. HopheadHans (753), Bay Area, California, USA Oct 16, 2008 tap. Nice example of the style. Pours iwht brownish red color, with aroams of fruit and some lemon. Tartness and oak as well as cherry and stomne fruit are combined with some caramel flavors. very well balanced, not too sour and nice mouthfeel. Bungalo22 (326), Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA Oct 13, 2008 Pours a cloudy yellow almost grapefruit-pulp like color with a great looking head. The lacing on this beer is outstanding. The aroma is hard hitting with hints of acids, earth and tart fruits. Like a sour it hits the palate with quite a burst at first but it is extremly complex and the flavors keep coming. Tastes of wood, grapefruit, some lemon tartness all come through. It has a light body but the flavors keep you more then occupied. It finishes dry and the taste sticks around. Very good. larsniclas (3383), Gothenburg, Sweden Oct 5, 2008 Bottled at 3 små rum.
Hazy, deep amber.
Sourish aroma, like vinegar.
Vinous flavour with loads of oaky notes.
Pretty sour and bitter. Marsiblursi (1631), Göteborg, Sweden Oct 3, 2008 Updated: May 19, 2009(Bottle) The beer pours deep amber to glowing reddish brown with a stable, creamy off-white head. A buttery oak blanket of vanilla, coconut and mild fresh wood covers the complex yeast aroma of moldy and dusty basement. A fruitiness of apples, rhubarbs and raspberries. Hints of orange and mild lemony citrus, red berries, mild spicy/pepper-like yeast, earthy/light sweet caramelly malt, light herbal hops, mild white grape tartness and just a whisper of clove. The flavour is graceful but the oak has a minor problem - it feels a bit separated from the rest of the beer. Tones of coconut, wood, light caramel, raspberries, unripe orange and lemony citric tartness, milk, mold, white grapes, light caramel and some earth. The mouthfeel is light round and soft with a light to medium carbonation. Dry, lingering finish. Medium bodied. JohnQPublic (387), Brooklyn, New York, USA Oct 3, 2008 Bottle into chalice; blend 7, ’08. Pours a cloudy medium brown with a slight muddy tint, creamy light tan head. Nose is cherries and a bit of oak, some vanilla sweetness, with a sourness that’s part big barnyard funk, bit of vinegar. Taste starts out with some sharp carbonation and an equally big dose of earthy, barnyard brett. Sourness takes on a fruitier quality early on, pairing with a cherry note alongside the brett; as the flavor progresses though, the flavor becomes more dominated with the earthy horseblanket and barnyard qualities of the brett, with the funk sitting on the palate for a while as the only lingering aspect of the slightly dry, clean finish. Mouthfeel is dryly carbonated, crisp, light bodied. Very interesting beer.
