Commercial Description:
La Roja, an artisan amber ale brewed in the Flanders tradition. Deep amber with earthy caramel, spice and sour fruit notes developed through natural barrel aging. Unfiltered, unpasteurized and blended from barrels ranging in age between two and ten months. Truly an ale of distinction.

Bottle. Ap: Nice redbrown color with creamy white head. Ar: Sour, fruity, mushroom-funky. Fla: First sour, then vinous and at last some bitterness (grape). Some oaky-smokey thing going on in the background.

Shady copper color, tan head. Acidc, sour, oak scent. Slight acidic, waek sour, a bit sweet taste. Medium mouthfeel, oak aftertaste, low bitterness. A bit like a boring lambic in the taste.

Bottle (75 cl) from Ølbutikken, Copenhagen, Denmark. Hazy chestnut, small head. Fruity and cidery with a harsh grapefruit aroma, and some cherries and plums in the background. Light to medium bodied, soft carbonation. Mildly sour, but with a rough churny grapefruit bitterness. I did not like this at all.

Bottle @ Ølbaren. Reddish brown, small firm beige head. Sourish, red gooseberry aroma, clear oak. Dry, sour flavor, berries, dill-oaky finish. Some might get a bit confused buying this as an amber ale. But it’s the Flanders, man.

Pours an orange amber with a big head. Really funky aroma, lots of yeast, spices and citrus. The flavor is nice and spicy, with lots of geuze-like tartness. A solid beer.

75 cL bottle. Pours hazy amber to brown with thick off-white head. Aroma is dry wooden, brett and mild wineous fruity. Dry sulphorish flavoured with a nice dry brett flavour to a smooth wineous fruity base. A bit light bodied yet nicely counter balanced by a lot of flavours rather than a thick malt backbone. Lingering fruity and sulphorish from the back of the nose. Ends dry and wooden.

An amber pour with an aroma of cherries and caramel/brown sugar. A huge off white head. A slight sour with fruit that hints of cherry but not like the aroma. A little bready. A lite bitterness that may come from the sour. Medium bodied with good mouthfeel and carbonation.
