Still new to the sour GAYME. This was mighty nice and refreshing. A fun beer to drink and pick a part. The bottle is sexy as hell, and the beer is even sexier.

One of my favorites. Pours a very interesting color - looks like hazy carbonated molasses or maple syrup. Beyond carbonated in every case that I have partaken of this joyous beer. Aromas are of very light funk. No barnyard, just light sourness. Flavor is very light on the palate, extremely refreshing. A nice clean sourness accented with hints of various kinds of fruits (grapefruits and oranges come to mind) along with light oaking. Very well balanced and very refreshing. I would drink this beer any day, definitely an all-time favorite.

Pours a cloudy brownish color with a nice tan head. Aroma of cherry, molasses, sourness, yeasts, funk, spices. Flavor is sour cherry, woody barrely funky yeasty goodness, spices. Slightly sour at the finish, with some good barrely notes. Really refreshing sour ale, good stuff.

Blend #9, 2007

8/10/2008: La Roja Artisan Amber Ale has an aroma comprised of very sour and tart cherries with hints of spice, citrus, toffee. This beer appears to have an amber color with golden highlights and is hazy with a thin fizzy beige head that doesn’t stay around long. A caramel maltiness is accompanied by tart and sour fruit, floral notes (rose), and a hint of dry oak in the finish. This beer is definitely sour but not overly so as it doesn’t pucker the cheeks. The combination of base flavors is a bit like red wine mixed with cranberry juice and then injected is carbonation. In true Jolly Pumpkin form, the flavors are all really well-balanced with just the right amount of sourness and funky qualities. This beer has a medium-light to medium body with a very crisp and refreshing palate. Excellent. I bet this would pair nicely with turkey or chicken or really anything!

Blend #9, 2007’. Aroma of sour cherries. Color is a deep hazy orange amber with very active carbonation and a tight little head. Taste is crisp and sour. Starting with a light body it goes down smooth with a crisp feel on the end. Finish is a bright sour flavor that has a very mild fruit taste then a little oak and faint bitterness. After taste is dry and sour but there seems to be a sweetness in there somewhere. This is the best Sour Ale I have had. The sour doesn’t overpower, letting it come out crisp and refreshing.

Attractive ruddy brown pour with a big, cream colored head. Tart cherry nose and flavor. A bit lacking in complexity. Dry finish.
