Juelze (889), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA May 9, 2008 Pours a dark brown color with lots of particles floating about and light tan head. Aroma is of dark sour fruit, yeast and light spice. Taste is of dark fruit, brett, light vanilla, caramel. Palate is sour but is not brash on the tongue. Alcohol is well hidden. Pretty good, but I’d prefer a NG Enigma. Petrucci914 (574), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA May 9, 2008 Pours a cloudy light brown color with lots of particulate and a medium offwhite head that leaves lots of sticky lacing. Aroma is sweet and tart. Taste is tart, sour, and creamy. Very good, but could use a bit more bite. buzzoven (333), Japan May 5, 2008 This is a very unique and well made beer but I’m afraid that it just did not sit well with me. Upon pouring it, I was intrigued by the colour, a rich rosey amber hue, but hardly any nose whatsoever...shame. The taste was interesting, but then about halfway through the first pint, I began to struggle to fully enjoy it. Taste is grassy, sour, gives me visions of plums and apricots wrapped up in soil...but the finish just left an unpleasant copper flavour on my tongue. Has potential and I *think* I might try this one again someday...but not anytime soon. Hank1980 (734), Athens, Georgia, USA May 3, 2008 Pours a cloudy amber brown with a a decent sized off-white head. Nose of fruit, red wine, and spice. Taste is very tart with raspberry and oak both present. Mouth is full bodied and dry, with some mild carbonation. Overall, a very nice sour ale. MrRain (416), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA Apr 30, 2008 Bomber poured into a dimpled mug. JPLR pours murky brown had had a largish dirty white head. I’ve never seen a beer quite like this one. Although it’s kind of ugly I’m going to give it an extra point for orginality. The aroma is tart like raspberries or black berries with only a hint of vinegar. As far as sour ales go this one is to my liking because it isn’t too strong. I haven’t developed the palate for sour ales yet. The whole taste is nicely muted by the barrel aging. The palate is semi-dry and quick to finish. southamptonsam (81), New York, USA Apr 29, 2008 I’ve been trying to like Flanders Sour Ales and finally found one I really like. Very nice beer. Perfect level of sour. durhambeer (1188), Durham, USA Apr 28, 2008 Updated: May 30, 2008Nice sour amber ale. Reddish brown pour. Very oaky on the nose, and a little sour. Tart fruits and sweetness... a little more sweet than sour, and the oak overshadows (but doesn’t dominate) all. I had this waaay too far into a tasting so I don’t have a lot of language for it, but I did write down "3.9," so I obviously liked it quite a bit. fredandboboflo (1395), East Setauket, New York, USA Apr 22, 2008 Bottle, blend 12. Aroma starts off light when chilled, but slowly grows from vague sourness to sour fruitiness to sour woodiness and ultimately leads into flavor characteristics by hinting of a sour, green (in a good way) earthiness. This earthiness is where the flavor takes off with an almost gritty nature to the ever-present sourness, including the wood, very tart, dry coffee (especially in the finish), and rotten fruits (but again, in a good way, I apologize if rotten fruits in a good way doesn’t make sense, but so it goes). Very, very interesting, very, very good, and certainly a brew to be revisited.
