boto (1319), Granby, Connecticut, USA Jun 15, 2007 750ml bomber: I opened this one up and sat it on the counter to get a glass. Big mistake. A good ooze of foam was coming out of the top. Needless to say, it pours with a decent sized tan head, that leaves a bit of lacing. The color is a darker, hazy amber. Caramel, sour apples, spices are the main scents present. The flavor is a bit sour, with some of the apple taste up front. Some caramel malts in the background. Some spiciness and a touch of dryness to the finish. A VERY nice beer. pantanap (1323), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 13, 2007 bottle....appearance: dark d, amber-brown with a more than ample-sized fluffy ivory head....aroma: tart green apple with a mild yeasty funk added to it....taste: immediately refreshing and crisp. green apple tartness, citrus, and yeast followed by an ever so slight caramel malt finish. the sourness tends to rule in this one which isn’t a bad thing at all. dmac (1421), Toms River, New Jersey, USA Jun 11, 2007 750 ml drank at Spuyten with willblake and dickinsonbeer. Poured a slightly hazy orangey/brown with a small off white head. Aroma is sour cherries, wood a little yeast. Flavor is very sour with hints of cherry and lots of funkiness. I was actually able to rate this one very easily before my palate was destroyed from sampling lambics all day. tytoanderso (1382), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA Jun 8, 2007 Updated: Jan 16, 2008Bottle. Pours rich amber brown. Frothy off-white head. Nice nose: wood, cherries, yeast. Nice fruity sweetness underneath the yeasty dryness. Lively carbonation and slightly creamy. Quite dry. Notes of oak, spices (white pepper). Just a hint of sour yeast at the end. Nice offering. One of the drier Flemish sours.
Re-Rate 1/16/2008. I was way off the mark the first time. Why the hell I gave it a 3.4 I’ll never know. Tart, funky aroma. Deliciously funky at that. Sour and tart, but not puckering on the tongue. Excellent carbonation. hellomynameis (794), Mayer, Minnesota, USA Jun 7, 2007 Tasty brew worth several more samples. Sweet caramel with spicey notes. Same in the flavour with some alcohol bite and a bit of residual sweetness. Not much tart/sour but there is some. swoopjones (1862), Buffalo, New York, USA Jun 6, 2007 Bottle @ Coles Buffalo NY. Deep amber color with sour friuts, oakiness, some caramel. Like better than previous Flanders that I’ve had. lilannie (383), State College, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 3, 2007 Aroma: carmel, spices, oak, mustiness, squash
Appearance: dark, orangish-brown, small white head, lacing
Flavor: carmel, spices, oak, mustiness, vanilla, alcohol, brown sugar, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, cardamon, burnt pie crust, and plums
