Commercial Description:
La Roja, an artisan amber ale brewed in the Flanders tradition. Deep amber with earthy caramel, spice and sour fruit notes developed through natural barrel aging. Unfiltered, unpasteurized and blended from barrels ranging in age between two and ten months. Truly an ale of distinction.

750 ml bottle. Foam gushes out as I open, carrying bits of break. Slightly sour smell. Pours cloudy amber, silky head, bits of trub in the glass. Sour taste comes through first. Some Belgian malt with a caramel note, red wine dryness. I was a little taken aback after expecting just a slightly stronger amber ale. But it is a fascinating complex American iteration of a Belgian style.

Love this one. Really sour for a belgian ale. Some lambic type qualities. Sour cider with a sweet finish. Amazing. I wish it came in smaller bottles.

Pours a nice brown with a reddish tent with a nice thick beige head. Smells like sour fruit and sweet. Tase was of sour apples, grapes almost like a mild Flemish sour. It had a nice vinager aftertaste. This beer was very refreshing

Pours a dark amber with a thick lacy light tan head. Slightly acidic, some sweet fruit and sourness in the nose. Taste is fairly sour with some candy sugar, a little sour cherry and other citrus fruits. Very refreshing. Not extremely tannic sour so its not overpowering, but more of a pleasant sourness. Just a delight to drink.

Hazy amber hue, with a small beige head, but falling quickly, i’m smelling flemish sour here! yeasty, cherry oakiness, hint of tartness, spicy toasted malt, subtle dryness in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a yeasty, acidic fruity oakiness character of cherry sourness, caramelized malt, a subtle winey accent, hint wild yeast brettanomyces, a spicy note, leading towards a malty, tart and floral leafy bitterness finish.

750ml bottle. Pours a bright red with some yeast floaties and a fluffy, off-white head. Pretty heavy lacing. Whoa, very interesting aroma. Sweet, spicy (like hot spicy), vinegar, fruity, whisky, sour. Interesting indeed. Taste is very sweet and fruity with a light mouthfeel. A bit spicy too. This is a very unique beer, different than anything I’ve had before. I don’t think it’s really my style but interesting nonetheless.

Gushed out as soon as I popped it open. It was copper/amber in color, with plenty of head, thanks to the gushing. It had a big sour smell, with apples and oak interlaced with some spice I couldn’t pin down. The taste was quite interesting as well, with some caramel, spice, and the sour apples making themselves known. It had sort of a white wine feel to it. The finish was pretty tart with a hint of oakiness. This was certainly a mindblower, at least for me. I can see how some people really wouldn’t be into this sort of thing, but I like it.

Dark amber, almost brown with a tinge of redness. Large head which does not disappear while drinking. Aroma is strong, mostly yeast and spice. Taste is light fruit and spicy. Yeast flavors are prominent and it is lightly sour throughout. Well balanced, pleasant to drink and definitely interesting.
