Commercial Description:
La Roja, an artisan amber ale brewed in the Flanders tradition. Deep amber with earthy caramel, spice and sour fruit notes developed through natural barrel aging. Unfiltered, unpasteurized and blended from barrels ranging in age between two and ten months. Truly an ale of distinction.

Malty, biscuity, toasty aroma, smells like it was aged in oak barrels, full smooth head, big fruity malt taste, with lacto bacillus sourness, finish is very dry. While flavor is big, it just didn’t seem complex enough, and this style is supposed to be a little sweeter.Glad I tried it,but I’ll pass in the future

Pours to a dark amber, slightly burgundy. Aromas are yeast, tart apples, grapefruit, malt, and a little whiskey. Very enticing. This has a strong sour fruit character with flavors of apple, cherry, and lemon, champange. Some subtle spice maybe coming from hops that i can barely taste, and some bitter chocolate from prominent malts. Very distinguished, with a careful balance of malt strength and sour punch.

Brilliant red color with a big and creamy off-white head that seems like it could last forever. One of the prettiest beers I’ve ever seen. Spicy aroma with hints of orchard fruit. Flavor has some apple skin, allspice, and tangy citrus notes along with a dry woody finish. What a wonderful brewery. I need more JP stuff and soon!

Attractive ruddy brown pour with a big, cream colored head. Tart cherry nose and flavor. A bit lacking in complexity. Dry finish.

Murkey, dark coppery amber. Nice creamy light tan head. Aroma has a rich sourness... some lime component, bourbon, flowers. Very nice aroma. Some of the richness leaves in the flavor. Some grassy sour caramel malt. Earthy wood overlap the sour perfectly. Great flavor... just wish there was more of it. Really good drink; could see myself drinking this frequently and spending time with it.

bottle....appearance: dark d, amber-brown with a more than ample-sized fluffy ivory head....aroma: tart green apple with a mild yeasty funk added to it....taste: immediately refreshing and crisp. green apple tartness, citrus, and yeast followed by an ever so slight caramel malt finish. the sourness tends to rule in this one which isn’t a bad thing at all.

Blend #9, 2007’. Aroma of sour cherries. Color is a deep hazy orange amber with very active carbonation and a tight little head. Taste is crisp and sour. Starting with a light body it goes down smooth with a crisp feel on the end. Finish is a bright sour flavor that has a very mild fruit taste then a little oak and faint bitterness. After taste is dry and sour but there seems to be a sweetness in there somewhere. This is the best Sour Ale I have had. The sour doesn’t overpower, letting it come out crisp and refreshing.

Amber chestnut hazy color, medium off white head with lots of lacing. Notes of earthy, and malty, some wood, and fruity base notes. Not bad but a bit disappointing. I think I could craft this blend with the dregs of any tasting.
