La Roja, an artisan amber ale brewed in the Flanders tradition. Deep amber with earthy caramel, spice and sour fruit notes developed through natural barrel aging. Unfiltered, unpasteurized and blended from barrels ranging in age between two and ten months. Truly an ale of distinction.

Good funk to this beer pear and plumb tastes that leave you with a slight dry mouth feel. Sour but not overly sour.

Possibly the first sour beer I ever tried, it’s still almost exactly as I remember it being six years ago. Caramel coated sour apples, a bit peppery, I recall thinking there had to be cherries in this and being shocked that there were not. Still paramount to an understanding of the style.

Drank straight from the bottle. Initial reaction was surprised because I didn’t know it would be sour. Not bad, but too sour for me

Bottle at home. Aroma is fermented red fruits, oak, light smoke, strawberry infused balsamic vinegar. Sweet / tart, with notes of berries, caramel, dusty old hops, oak, light vanilla, light funk. Decent souring on the finish. Very good.

Bottle shared at the Cotteridge convention, 24/01/2015. Many thanks to Rich the Villain. Hazed orange / amber coloured pour with a lasting loose off white head. Aroma is tart and musty, raspberry. Flavour is composed of woody, tart fruit, musty, little pucker of acid, tart berry, cherry. Palate is sweet and sour, medium body, highish carbonation. A little vinegar notes.

Pours dark amber. Medium body. Fruit and sour, spices, and cask flavors tastes like whiskey. The fruit is dark like prunes and strawberries. Barrell aging flavor is a medium intensity. Tastes like it is more ABV than it really is. Definitely a sipping beer

Tart cherries and lemon up front, with notes of nutty caramel, granny smith apples, toasted bread, nutmeg, cinnamon and blended spice. Hints of oak and bourbon in the finish. Great crisp and tart finish.

750 ml bottle at home from notes. Pours a hazy amber/caramel color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have tart cherries, caramel, oak, Jolly Pumpkin funk, a light spicy character, earthy bitterness creeps in, this is more tart than truly sour, always interesting to try these.
