COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
La Roja, an artisan amber ale brewed in the Flanders tradition. Deep amber with earthy caramel, spice and sour fruit notes developed through natural barrel aging. Unfiltered, unpasteurized and blended from barrels ranging in age between two and ten months. Truly an ale of distinction.

Pours a deep amber, with a hint of haze. Nice slightly off-white head that is lush and lasts. Aroma is very oaky, with a hint of yeast and sourness. In the mouth, it’s quite carbonated yet soft. The sourness is at the forefront here, but it’s not overpowering. I’m not a big sour guy (or a big oak guy, for that matter), but this was nice.

Bottle shared at a tasting at Max’. Murky brown red. sour, a little lactic, yogurt aroma. Sour, yet there’s some grainy undertones. Light-bodeid, hardly any carbonation, mild and tolerable sour finish. Nice.

Effervescence moyenne. Une autre bonne bière de JP

The appearance is a murky copper color with small off-white ring, and the aroma blends caramel malts, sour pit fruit (predominantly tart cherries), clove, and oak. The initial flavor is mildly sour, mildly acidic, and slightly sweet, but the aftertaste is a mellow, well-balanced slight sourness and sweetness. The palate fuses a slick texture, soft carbonation, a Pickering effect, and a medium body.

Dark brown in color with ruby hues. Low to medium carbonation. Aromas of dark fruits. Flavors of sour cherries, raisins, dried plums.

From 12oz bottle. Acidic, fruity aroma. Pinkish red appearance, clear, rose-like. No head to speak of, no lacing. Predominantly sour, but funky and a little bitter. Light body, thin texture, nearly-flat carbonation, long, strawberry flavor, slightly bitter grapefruity-finish. Not quite sour enough, too funky and bitter for my taste. A little flat overall.

24th Jan 2015: shared bottle at the Cotteridge wine meet. Misty amber hue to the body, thin beige topping. Tart and sharp cherry sourness in the nose, same could be said for the taste, a bit ’woody’ but mostly sour cherries. Cheers whoever brought it to the tasting.

Bottle at Cotteridge wine convention; hazy copper/red pour with a thin bubbly beige head, tart fruit aroma, taste has caramel, dried fruits, tart cherries, quite good.
