La Roja, an artisan amber ale brewed in the Flanders tradition. Deep amber with earthy caramel, spice and sour fruit notes developed through natural barrel aging. Unfiltered, unpasteurized and blended from barrels ranging in age between two and ten months. Truly an ale of distinction.

Pours a cloudy amber with an creamy off white head. Great head retention. Fruity, roasty oak aroma. Kinda creamy sweet & sour fruit taste. The beer fills your with a sugary almost salty long finish. One of my highest ratings!

Incredible woody, caramel, sour and acidic nose. Flavor is much the same. Deep caramel flavors, and complex woody sour notes. A fine, fine beer indeed.

Pours an amber brown with a thin head. Aroma is tart cherries and spice. Flavor is slightly tart and just wonderful. I love everything JP makes. Thin bodied and finishes very dry and tart. Great beer.

Deep hazy brownish red, frothy off white head. Tremendous nose on this with notes of caramelized pineapple, vanilla, wood, coconut, brown sugar, spiced plum and raisin, and softer tones of florals and bourbon. Flavor practically matched with tropical fruit, wood, and caramel initially, but zesty hops kick in late to keep this extremely well balanced. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, drying, oaky, caramel coated tropical fruit finish. I knew this was going to be good, but had no idea it would be unbelievable! Highly recommended...

75cl bottle. Ruby in color...ferocious bubbles...tan head that isn’t exactly billowing, but is persistent...the color, in the light, makes it look like a kriek...glowing hazy red. Aroma plays into that...strong oak & sour dominate. Reminds me a bit of a lumberyard...some sort of cherry aspect is there as well...Fairly intense & striking nose. This isn’t your everyday US craft beer! New Belgium be damned...this kid makes no apologies for its character! Mouthfeel is on the light side and quite prickly from the active beer. Airy. The flavor of the beer is dominated by oak, earthy sourness, spice, & subtle(and lovely) fruitiness. The acidity is obvious, w/o being overbearing. its quite refreshing...and just a bit of sweetness in the background gives it some balance. This is a must for the sour beer lover in me.

A wonderful sour aroma with hints of apples and raspberries. It pours a cloudy reddish-amber with a nice white fluffy head that leaves sheets of lacing on the glass. Starts on a sweet note, with strong oak hints, and with a dry, sour finish. Lively carbonation keeps it from cloying. Another great beer from the folks at Jolly Pumpkin.

GToMW 07 - Reddish brown color. Incredible sour grape/cherry notes in aroma. Great sour fruit flavor, like a very sophisticated Sour Patch Kids candy. I really loved this one.

UPDATED: DEC 27, 2014 Bottle: Pours a beautiful hazy amber/rusty deep orange color with a blossoming, frothy tan head which stays the whole time. Brightly aromatic. Sharp raspberry, passion fruit, brett, damp barnyard, earthy, almost compost-like, oak, and funky cheese notes. Very graceful carbonation gives way to a firm, full palate. Has a sharp tartness, yet it’s mildly acidic. The flavor is beautiful and perfectly balanced. Delicate tart fruits like raspberry, star fruit, fresh strawberries, and light lemon-rind hints. The middle has a mild lactic tartness with subtle caramel hints. The oak presents itself in the middle as well and extends into the bone-dry finish. This is an extremely elegant and complex Ale. World class!

One of my favorites. Pours a very interesting color - looks like hazy carbonated molasses or maple syrup. Beyond carbonated in every case that I have partaken of this joyous beer. Aromas are of very light funk. No barnyard, just light sourness. Flavor is very light on the palate, extremely refreshing. A nice clean sourness accented with hints of various kinds of fruits (grapefruits and oranges come to mind) along with light oaking. Very well balanced and very refreshing. I would drink this beer any day, definitely an all-time favorite.

22oz bottle at Redlight Redlight. Alan at Knightly recommended this one. Though JP bills this as an "amber" its definitely a sour ale. Nose is full on funkines with sour cherry, brett mustiness and a slight undercurrent of caramel. Pours a copper color with nice red hues and foamy head. The bottle was constantly spurting foam for about 4 mins after the first pour. Wierd. Huge sour tart flavor with bits of cherry. Caramel comes through in the lingering finish and hints of wood an vanilla. The only thing "amber" about this ale. A real winner of a sour ale though, this had more bite than most of their brews and I could definitely feel the alcohol but it never seemed overt. Very well done.
