Commercial Description:
La Roja, an artisan amber ale brewed in the Flanders tradition. Deep amber with earthy caramel, spice and sour fruit notes developed through natural barrel aging. Unfiltered, unpasteurized and blended from barrels ranging in age between two and ten months. Truly an ale of distinction.

The color was amber with very deep red hues. The head was creamy and light beige. The aroma was alcohol, spice, sweet, caramel, and candy. The flavor was tart, candy, sweet, very complex, and fruity (especially apple). The palate was very nicely carbonated. The finish was warm and tart.

bottle....appearance: dark d, amber-brown with a more than ample-sized fluffy ivory head....aroma: tart green apple with a mild yeasty funk added to it....taste: immediately refreshing and crisp. green apple tartness, citrus, and yeast followed by an ever so slight caramel malt finish. the sourness tends to rule in this one which isn’t a bad thing at all.

This style is so interesting and diverse. The beer is just so funky and sour it’s hard to describe. Very complex in all areas. Just damn good.

Pours a dark amber color with a white head. Has hints of sour fruits, caramel, wood. Finishes with a clean tart taste on the tongue.

Sample at joebrew’s Friday beer tasting at Cellar’s Wine & Spirits in St Paul, MN. Pours a dark coppery amber brew with an average off-white head. Aroma of funky years, sour apple and oak, with a touch of grapefruit. Taste is a strong sour beer with apple. lemmon and a touch of bing cherry. Finish has a slight bourbon whiskey aftertaste and then smooth.

2008 bottle. Pours a hazy/cloudy deep orange/amber color with a tannish head. Good lacing. Aroma is sour apple, vinegar, earth, & dark fruits. Palate is medium to light with fairly light carbonation. Taste was real sour at first with an almost vinegar taste. I felt there was a hint of green apple in there. Theres also flavors of grapefruit, dark fruit, lemon, etc. I really can’t describ all the flavors. This was my first sour ale and it was quite an experience, albeit a good one. Big thanks to Mcbackus for sending me this one.

Very unique. Tried this one with scotch4281. Somewhat wine like in acidity but comes through smooth. Nice balance of sour and fruit.
