Commercial Description:
La Roja, an artisan amber ale brewed in the Flanders tradition. Deep amber with earthy caramel, spice and sour fruit notes developed through natural barrel aging. Unfiltered, unpasteurized and blended from barrels ranging in age between two and ten months. Truly an ale of distinction.

This style is so interesting and diverse. The beer is just so funky and sour it’s hard to describe. Very complex in all areas. Just damn good.

Pours a dark amber color with a white head. Has hints of sour fruits, caramel, wood. Finishes with a clean tart taste on the tongue.

750 ml. gift from myself to myself for X-mas.Poured brown pond water color with a small but steadfast white head. The aroma is similar to a Flemish sour ale - sweet green apples and splinters. The taste has a woody element to it that sticks out in the aftertaste along with other mild tart fruit flavors. Overall, I enjoyed it a lot.

Poured amber with a huge off white that had to settle. Aroma of fruit, spice, and malt. Flavor of sweet malt to start with some sour fruit and spice. Finished dry. As it warmed the sour taste became more dominant.

Poured a deep reddish color with nice white head and good lacing. It smelled of sour fruits, some caramel sweetness, and some spices as well. It started off with a good dose of sour fruits like apples, lemons, and oranges. It followed with a sweet and spicy flavor from the caramel and earthy spices. Had a lot going on in this beer. It was full flavored and full bodied that finished dry with some sour notes. Really enjoyed this one. Another great brew from JP.

Blend 5 (2008) thanks to ilovedarkbeer. Pours with a large, light brown head that stays for the duration and leaves sheets of lacing. Hazy ruby colored beer hides underneath. Aroma of vanilla, clove, plum, earthy caramel and some florals. Taste is sour and very floral and fruity with notes of red wine, plums and oak. Very carbonated with a trace of alcohol on the palate, dry mouthfeel.

The liquor store put this on sale because no one was buying it. Who knows why, this is a really interesting flemish ale. I am really getting to love these sour beers. I can taste the cherries and the slight hint of ginger. A really nice layered beer. Cheers! P.S. Keep it on sale.

The color is a beautiful cloudy burgundy-caramel. The head is almost sculptable. At first the flavor almost seemed like a cross between a Belgian golden ale and a Flemish sour ale, but after the first few sips the sour was really coming through, in a very satisfying way. The spiciness, with subtle oak notes, almost dances on the tongue. Nicely tart, clean aftertaste. Distinctive and recommended.
