La Roja, an artisan amber ale brewed in the Flanders tradition. Deep amber with earthy caramel, spice and sour fruit notes developed through natural barrel aging. Unfiltered, unpasteurized and blended from barrels ranging in age between two and ten months. Truly an ale of distinction.

tart sour nose with hints of brown caramel malts, thin head, deep mirky brown color, palate is quite watery which must be from the excessive dryness of this ale, flavor is acidic and tart but far from overwhelming, significant lingering bitterness, hints at fruit but far from complicated in the ester department, some dark malt flavor sticks around at the finish, very mild brett flavors... Far less complex and bretty than most other JP ales, but more sour than most of the others I’ve had

New Beer Distributors, NYC 375ml (too much): Pours red with a small head and a thin layer of lacing. Aroma is cherries, vinegar, some spice. Taste is rather on the sour side. A lot of earthiness and wood. I can taste something akin to cork in there as well. The sourness is sort of at the top of the beer. Nice finish. I would have liked a little more at the finish, but I shouldn’t complain.

Bottle at Luksus, Tørst brooklyn. Pours a reddish Amber with a Amber coloured head. Nose has sour cherries, dry oak and some tart. Taste is upfront sour cherries and warheads. Not a lot of tart. Silky smooth on the palate. Pretty decent sour. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle to glass. Pours a murky amber copper light brown color with a light tan head. Aroma is dry, oak, sour cherry, quite tart. Flavor is surprisingly mild, smooth, not very tart, light oak. Smooth and silky body with more lingering sweetness than tartness. Tasty, but I’m surprised at the lack of tartness in the flavor.

Tap, pours an auburn brown with little off white fizz. Earthy sweet sour aroma, very pleasant. The flavor follows with a nice dark amber Belgian lightly sweet very smooth and with a great addition of sour fruitiness and light tart and subtle oak. More oak and grain in the finish which is drying, very enjoyable and probably my favorite of the more regular find able holly pumpkin beers.

Refreshing spices, like most Unibroues strive to be, but without their negative yeast. Reminds of a saison.Rum whiff. Well carbonated. All taste. Lots of different malts. I must try all from this brewery. Licorice, corriander, rum, bourbon, fennel, fruit

On tap @ Vino Bellissimo / Lima OH --- Clear dark reddish amber with a dotted rim head, strips of lace. Taste is straight red sour ale - a light malt that is mostly sour; a little sweet wafts in and out through the lingering finish. A really solid example of the style. Beers like this remind me of Springtime in France. Full of vigor and life.
