La Roja, an artisan amber ale brewed in the Flanders tradition. Deep amber with earthy caramel, spice and sour fruit notes developed through natural barrel aging. Unfiltered, unpasteurized and blended from barrels ranging in age between two and ten months. Truly an ale of distinction.

750ml bottle, batch #12 from 2008. pours a hazy, bronze with hints of gold and a thick, sticky, khaki head and a thick sheet of lace. aroma is wonderful with big, tart, red fruit notes of berry and cherry with notes of red wine vinegar, sour grapes, tart apricot, and a definite funky presence balanced by sweeter touches of caramel, cinnamon, and wood. flavor was a bit of a let-down after the aroma but was still very nice with milder tart berry notes, dry red wine, and plum with a touch of vanilla, caramel malts, and bready yeast on the finish. the flavor was just not as sour as expected - was this one too balanced?! palate was medium bodied with big carbonation and a lingering, dry, mildly tart finish. overall, a very solid sour ale.

small frothy offwhite head. fair lacing. mostly diminishing. hazy thick dark amber body. aroma: light malty, citrus lemon, grape, white wine, cask wood, vinegar. if: light sweet moderate acidic acetic. ff: light sweet moderate acidic very light bitter acetic vinegar; long duration. palate: light medium body, oily texture, lively carbonation, moderate astringent finish. Amadeirado bem presente no paladar. Cerveja refinada, mas não recomendada para leigos/iniciantes. Bochechada, lembra groselha ao ganhar temperatura. Padrão belga. Toques picantes no último quarto da cerveja, aumentando mais ainda sua complexidade. 210 s

Lacking notes. Aroma was funky, with oak, slight hint of vinegar. Extremely complex, funky but delicate. Awesome brew.

This one is a bit much for me. Sour and fruity. Not much of an Amber flavor. The bitter hops is completely disguised by the sour cherry like finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Not bad. Has some tart sour flavors on the front end and biscuity flavors on the finish. I remember liking this beer more than I do currently, but not bad.

Bottle. Pours a dark reddish amber brown with a thick white head. Aromas of green Apple, oak, sour raspberries, slight booze. Taste is pretty sour raspberries up front, green Apple, funk and yeast. Earthy and oaky finish.

Blend 8 Bottled 6/10/2011 - sat this one for a while in my cellar, time to enjoy it! Dark red amber pour with a slight white head. Nose is lactic and tannic - a touch acetic - with a touch of oak as well. Complex taste, sour and tart with some vinegar notes that blends with the dark fruit and wood character.

750ml bottle, shared but mostly drunk by me with dinner the other night. Poured a dark ruby color with a small light tan head. Aroma was a touch of funky notes, some cherry, oak. Nice sour notes, some barrel. Sour cherries, but not supper sour, which makes it quite enjoyable to drink. Fabulous funky, slightly acidic. Nice carbonation makes this one lively from start to finish.

Hazy reddish amber with a very small head, not much retention at all. The aroma has oak, tart cherries, plum, straw, apple, raisins, grape, and mellow funk. The flavor is just as complex, a nice blend of cherries, green apple, raisin, and oak, as well as a moderate sourness. Finishes well balanced and dry, with lingering oak, sour, and stone fruit. Fantastic.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 4/8/2013. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy deep reddish copper color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of tart cherry, cranberry, lemon zest, green apple, plum, raisin, red grape, caramel, leather, vinegar, hay, straw, grass, oak, clove, musty funk, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky yeast, oak, and moderate malt sweetness; with great strength. Taste of big tart cherry, cranberry, green apple, lemon zest, plum, raisin, red grape, caramel, leather, vinegar, hay, straw, grass, oak, clove, musty funk, and yeast/oak earthiness. Good amount of fruity/earthy tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of tart cherry, cranberry, green apple, lemon zest, plum, raisin, red grape, caramel, leather, vinegar, hay, straw, grass, oak, clove, musty funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity and balance of tart/fruity/funky yeast, oak, and dark malt flavors; with a great sweetness/tartness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and moderately slick/acidic mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome sour red ale. All around great complexity and balance of tart/fruity/funky yeast, oak, and dark malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to sip on with the balanced acidity. A highly enjoyable offering.
