The Quick and The Dead
Sour ale brewed with pumpkin and lime.
Brewed Exclusively for the Rare Beer Club
We bring delight to our dance of a decaying mortal tune. The beauty of contrasts, of oposites and the shores on which they clash is the inspiration behind Los Vivos y Los Muertos. When The Rare Beer Club asked us to brew up something form (sic) the fringe of our imagination, we thought what better and more appropirate for this autumnal season than this? Cheers and Mahalo Plenty!

Bottle @ La Palma Sour Fest 2015. Super carbonated beer. Massive white head on a yellow body. Some bread, a touch of grass, and a bunch of straw. Kind of bland, though. Thereís kind of an odd almond paste and almost banana peel flavor to it. Sort of meely. A bit of sweet bread, some lime/citrus, and a fair bit of yeast. Kind of grainy, too. Not a big fan.

750mL bottle, I believe one and only batch from 2014, shared by tectactoe on 7/25/15.
Very light blonde colored beer shows good clarity and is topped by a moderate amount of white head that recedes fairly steadily to cover.
Heavy acidity in the nose is streaked with barrel tannins, vanilla and oak-like sourdough notes. Pretty perfumey, or perhaps thatís just a euphemism for sharp. Not boozey, obviously, but just too much wood graininess mixed with heavy, dry acidity. Lime and pumpkin done well, though and are in the background (lime) and non-existent (pumpkin).
After really enjoying La Roja Kriek, I was hoping for something more along those lines. While that one is certainly sour, itís not like the recent Jolly Pumpkin trend of smash-you-in-the-face with barrel character. And itís not even the extreme sourness that bothers me, hell, Cantilon is my favorite brewery, so bring on the sourness, but there just isnít much else in the JP beers these days than a whole boatload of oak and sourness. All that said, this one isnít the biggest offender, and itís not so sour as to dominate, but it still just seems like a mouthful barrel and acids. Body is light, with some wateriness that seems appropriate. Minor astringency issues but hey, itís still worlds better than Crooked Stave!

Tectactoe sharing this 750, cheers! Bright gold, huge head. Aroma is light lime peel, dusty yeast, light bread.

The body is light, zesty, big lime zest shows again. Sourness is mild but tartness is alive and well. Lingering lime. Yeasty, bready finish ... Some botanical notes... Not to shabby, thanks Tony.

On tap at 2014 GTMW, pours a pale yellow with a very thin white head, the aroma has a little bit of funk and barnyard mixed in with each other, the flavor is kind of one note, a bit sour with a little bit of barnyard and yeast in the finish, not overly sour but has a bit of a punch not bad.
