COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Quick and The Dead
Sour ale brewed with pumpkin and lime.
Brewed Exclusively for the Rare Beer Club
We bring delight to our dance of a decaying mortal tune. The beauty of contrasts, of oposites and the shores on which they clash is the inspiration behind Los Vivos y Los Muertos. When The Rare Beer Club asked us to brew up something form (sic) the fringe of our imagination, we thought what better and more appropirate for this autumnal season than this? Cheers and Mahalo Plenty!

Bottle split with Ray at Zorbas. Pours a hazy gold with bubbly, thick white head. Aroma of lime rind, brett, tropical fruit and pepper, spiceÖI donít pick up any pumpkin. Medium light body, very carbonated. Taste of lime, spice, honey, hay, light brett notes. Very dry and a bit astringent. The flavors seem to clash about. I donít care for this.

Bottle shared by oldsock. Pours lightly hazy gold with a large, frothy white head, long retention with good lacing. Aroma is biscuit and honey malt, vinous notes, lactic grapes and lemon with light spices. Flavor is moderate spices, light lactic grapes and lemon, light honey notes and a dry finish. Light body and moderate carbonation.

Good stuff. Big bretta saison from the jolly old boys. Pours orange with great head and lacing. Bitter and sour finish. Soft carbonation. Thanks old sock.

Bottle from Sean - thanks! Hazy yellow, slight orange pour with a big froth of white foam. Lime, grain, green apple tart, and dry background brett on the aroma. Taste is pleasant tart with green apple and lime followed by wheat grain and sharper brett on the finish. I cannot find any pumpkin. Dry and clean mouthfeel. I liked it. Does not present as over the top as the description though.

Another rarity courtesy of Chris -- thanks!!!

Great big head dropping off into coarse peaks and valleys atop a gold-amber body. Aroma of lime and chile spice, musty, with mineral to the point of almost chlorinated water. Flavor is very dry, bretty, lime peel more than juice -- no, kaffir leaf, thanks kmweaver -- lots of must. A bit thin on the tongue, but in a way that matches the intent very well; what do you expect from a 4.5% saison? This is a funny beer in that itís basically a table beer whose virtue lies in its simplicity -- while being brewed as a rather out-of-the-box combination of additions. But I really like it. If in the mood for a bretty low abv saison, it could be quite hard to beat. Coming back later this has a huge rose pot-pourri thing going on. Interesting that I didnít pick it up until drinking a glass of Panil Divina.

Bottle - 750mL crowned from The Rare Beer Club. Cloudy amber pour with a tall, dense white head. Very funky and yeast aroma with lots of herbs, straw, grass, flowers, dried fruit grains and malt notes. Taste is strong funky yeast, fruit notes, dusty malt, grains, herbs, light spices, grass notes, straw, hay earthy notes and sourdough bread dough. Body is light-medium with a strong, dense, bubbly carbonation. Ends with more funky yeast notes, bread dough, dusty malt, flowers, gras, straw, earthy notes and herbs. Nice!

Light amberish color, fluffy white head. Loads of funk and some good sour notes. Lime zest, maybe a hint of the pumpkin but I get a lot of earthy flavors and a zesty tartness.

Had a glass on tap at the brewpub. So good. Light, packed with funky flavor, a little sour, cigarettes, earthiness.

Tap @ Jolly Pumpkin: Hazy, yellow-amber body, volatile & frothy white head that sits CHUNKY on top, lasting forever, leaving nice, laced webbing along the sides of the glass. Signature JP funky aroma, loads of critters & bacteria; spicy, peppery yeast, undercooked bread, cobweb funk, wet barnyard cotton, & an undeniable, lime-y citric note peaking towards the back-end. Tons of drying, saison yeast on the palate, spicy wood, nice mid-palate lime peel & lime zest that adds a very modest amount of tartness before leading into a grassy, herbal, yeasty finish. Plenty of that oaky, critter filled barnyard funk that you expect from JPís brews, super dry finish. I literally get no pumpkin from this, but the lime addition is duly noted. Reminds me of a drier version of Bam Biere with lime zest. Very nice, eminently crushable.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a light crisp orange color with a foamy white head that leaves a haphazard lacing. The lime comes out a lot in the aroma that is really fresh and juicy smelling. At the first sip the citrus lime flavors makes a return in a nice sour way. The only pumpkin I really get out of it is a slight vegetal somewhat pumpkin thickness about halfway through. Lime notes really go all the way through until the end. A refreshing hop tingle comes out as the other flavors start to dissipate after the drink. Very drinkable stuff. A perfect summer beer.
