4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 mreusch (851) - Olathe, Kansas, USA - OCT 25, 200912oz. bottle, labeled oak aged 21 months, batch 130/131, with a huge thanks to StFun! Pours a hazy amber with a moderate off-white head that hangs around for a bit. Aroma is oak, sour grape skins, tart cherries, some light dust and must. Flavor is fairly light and gentle, with more sour grape skins, oak, tart cherry, and a little dried dark fruits and mustiness. A lighter mouthfeel with a dry finish; nicely nuanced. Good stuff, thanks again Josh!

Once upon a funk beer. All funk from smell to taste, still being a good drinker and under control. Much funkier than any JP I have ever tried. Great looks with a big fomay head and lots of lace, that also serve to cushion the tongue and make for a smooth drinkable beer. Thanks Dougsense.

Hazy amber/gold pour. Decent head. Funky aroma, tary pincherries, yeast, farmhouse, spicy. Dry and tart, leather, barnyard, wet hay, sour green apple, some spice, oak, funky. Easy drinking, alcohol very well hidden. Medium mouthfeel.

2nd August 2009 Hazy amber - brown beer. Crisp and dry palate. Immediately tart and sour but the oaking holds the sharp edges in check. Finishes dry and medicinally sour with a touch of wood. Four someone who struggles with sours - this was pretty drinkable.

Bottle at a tasting at James’ place courtesy of James and his giant cellar. Pours a hazed ruby with a medium sized white head. Smells lovely, wood and sour acid, funk and musk. Musky, a light sourness with touches of funk and a hint of acetone. Long funky finish and a bit of musk and tannins.

On tap at Jackie-Os. Hazy orange-amber color, super-thin creamy-looking slightly off-white head. Good lace. Really fine, crisp carbonation. Drier texture. Never had a sour before, so I’ve got nothing to compare this to, though I’ve been wanting to try this one for a while... $9 for one goblet is really expensive, but when I found out this was a 2004 vintage, I was interested enough to take the plunge. What the hell, you know? The sour taste is really awesome and interesting. Has a sort of tart aspect to it. Real dry texture. Belgian yeast strains in the aroma, and a little bourbon barrel. Very interesting overall, but I’m not really sure what effect the 8 years of aging had... Maybe I should have started with the standard Luciernaga, first. Really tasty, for sure! But no way I’ll be paying so much for this more than once.

(12oz bottle batch 130/131) clear rich ruby/amber with a ring of fine off-white bubbles. Nose of wet wood, rose hips, cherry, funky, and acetone unfortunately. Taste is acetic, vinegar, acidic, tongue thrashing in a way, big on sour, low on balance. Some cherry and rose hips in the taste also.
