4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 superspak (1464) - Michigan, USA - MAR 8, 2013
750 ml bottle into tulip glass; batch 813/814, bottled on 6/6/2011. Pours slightly hazy golden orange color with a 2 finger fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big tart apple, lemon, pear, pepper, clove, coriander, grass, hay, funk, floral, herbal, light leather, and earthy yeast spiciness. Damn nice aromas with great complexity and balance of fruity, funk, and spicy notes. Taste of tart apple, pear, lemon, pepper, clove, coriander, hay, grass, light leather, and earthy spiciness. Light earthy tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of tart light fruits, coriander, pepper, clove, grass, hay, light leather, and earthy spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice balance and complexity of fruity and spicy notes with funkiness; and zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly prickly mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with nearly zero warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent spiced Belgian pale ale! Great balance and complexity of tart fruit, funk, and spicing; and very smooth and crisp to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 umich03jm (898) - Allen Park, Michigan, USA - MAR 7, 2013
Bottle, 5-15-2012. Pours slightly cloudy golden orange color with a big rocky head that fades normally and leaves lots of lacing. Love the spicy aroma, definitely getting coriander, citrus, and some light sour funk but the rest of the aroma is very hard to describe. Taste is packed with spicy/herbal flavor. The bubbly carbonation and light tartness gives this champagne quality. Medium body, high carbonation bubbles nicely for a unique mouthfeel. This has always been my favorite Jolly Pumpkin beer and one of the few worth the expensive price.

pours hazy golden with a small white head. Nose of zesty orange, some brett, and fruit. Thin mouthfeel, with aroma of fruit, some tartness, spices. Not as strong in the aroma profile; subtle but enjoyable!
2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 beerproject (108) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - FEB 25, 2013
Aroma is pretty light, with spicy notes and a touch of brett funk. The taste was pretty light as well with spice notes from spices and yeast, some brett funk and a touch of noble hops. Finish was very dry plus highly carbed, making it rather biting.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Elwood (2490) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - FEB 25, 2013
Serving: 750 ml. bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours a cloudy gold with a pillowy white head. The nose has a faint tartness with notes of brett, yeast, and white pepper. The flavor is light and tangy with a little lemon zest pepper, and light yeast notes. Light in body with a tart finish. Very refreshing and super sessionable. I could drink this all day.
3.2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Concealer (145) - Denver, Colorado, USA - FEB 24, 2013
Hazy orange gold hue. Smells of some earthy notes, spice, citrus and a touch of tart. It is pretty good brew with a lot of carbination and s bitter hoppy finish.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 banii (109) - Trondheim, NORWAY - FEB 24, 2013
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 wchesser (664) - Denver, Colorado, USA - FEB 1, 2013
Slightly cloudy gold with fast fading head persistent on the edges. Spicy nose with some funk like wet hay. Spice and lemon citrus flavors. Grains of paradise show well. Fairly long. complex finish with good tartness, some salty savoriness. Good with sushi.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 ansermadide (1189) - Kyle, Texas, USA - JAN 31, 2013
Cloudy golden in color with a white head, this is really a soft, complex, almost fruity ale that still holds a distinctively sour character. It’s a very easy beer to enjoy, with a touch of gentle spices that you’d expect from a beer of the style. Although it’s effervescent, it’s only slightly so, allowing for a pleasant drinking experience. What hops are present are mostly fruity in character and blend very well with the beer. I just wish I could have had the whole bottle to myself.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 durhambeer (2394) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - JAN 31, 2013
Bottle, poured into a Duvel glass. Hazy golden orange with a finger of off-white foam. Nice lacing. Nose reminds me of a (non-American) saison in its graininess with the gentle hop character of some Begian goldens. Jolly Pumpkin tart funk in there of course as well. Some bright citrus notes that aren’t all hops. A bit dusty, as is the taste. Bottle showing some age. Taste and palate fall a bit flat, especially in the surprising lack of tartness. Grains of paradise, pepper, and chalk on the finish.
