3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from LeopoldStoch, thanks Brandon! Poured a lightly hazy amber-orange color with a moderate, dense off-white head that quickly faded to a light layer. Awesome aroma. Moderately peppery paired with a soft tart fruitiness (lemon peel, orange) along with some softer fruits (apricot, peach), a nice hop presence, some soft oak, and a funky yeastiness. Smooth, lightly sweet entry with a touch of sweet fruit and oak that leads into a crisp, dry hoppiness paired with a tart yeasty funk producing notes of lemon, earthy hops, pepper, and some light leather that lingers into the finish where it’s paired with a soft oakiness. Crisp, lively carbonation complements the flavors well and makes it very easy to drink. Overall, the flavors seem to meld very well and create an interesting, crisp, easy drinking beer that left me wanting more. Very enjoyable.

Wow, over 2 years old and it held up so well with the hops and with wonderful development of the sour yeast. Aroma brings a bit of spicy hops, some tropical fruit, and a bit of sweet and tangy yeast. Pours thick and light hazy golden orange with a white head.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
750 ml bottle sample at tasting (late 2011). Pours a hazy golden color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor had some pale malts, woody herbal, grapefruit, some spiciness, tart, not overly sour, grassy, musty. This was interesting, but the finish was a bit soft.

Very hazy amber beer, tiny white head. Light crisp palate, semi dry. Sourish fruits with a little seltzer minerals and a touch of white wine vinegar. The oak stops it from getting to pucker sour territory. Bit of lemon and brett in the semi dry finish. Nice but I could not drink a lot of this.

Bottle shared by Thorpe429. Thanks Mike!
The beer appears hazy and yellowish orange, with a quarter inch of white head. The aroma consists of brettanomyces, hops, citrus, funk. Good flavor, with lots of brett, a mild hop character, and some lasting citrus flavors. A good beer, I would have this again.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
In short: An original golden ale that is rustic, woody, herbal, tart and mildly funky. Excellent Saison-ish wild beer
How: Bottle 750ml. Consumed 7 months after the beer release (first batch, only batch so far). Bottle sent to me by sarro, huge thanks to my man Kyle
The look: Slightly cloudy golden-amber body topped by a medium off-white head with medium retention
In long: The nose is hard to describe, not very intense, notes of herbal hops, tartness, wood, fruity notes of kiwis (!!) and other exotic fruits, rustic yeast. Taste is build on a bed of straws on which sharp and tickling flavors about, herbal hops spiciness, dried flowers, rustic dusty yeast, some lacto funk & tartness, lots of virgin wood (wood planks). Nice mouthfeel with a lively carbonation. The ratebeer style might a bit misleading, a JP classic like Bam Bier is classified as a Saison while this Lupulo de Hielo is classified as a sour/wild but to me it should be the other way around, this Lupulo de Hielo felt like a nice rustic Saison with a wild twist. Only slightly above average as far Jolly Pumpkin beers are concerned, but to me a slightly above JP offering is an excellent beer. I loved this beer, so guess who’s gonna drink a few more bottles of Lupulo de Hielo? Not me, I only had one bottle, maybe a dude called Raymond will, how would I know… I’m the one asking you.

Wedding Rate thanks to deyholla brought to me at my wedding table. Thanks, dude. I miss having you around these parts. Pours a well hazed orange hue, deeper glow throughout the body in this light with a frothy whitish head atop, dies to a film and laces small. Aromas are heavenly, preaching lots of fruit, citrus and melon, touches of sour apple, yogurt, and funky farmhouse elements. Sour wheat, lively fruit nose really gives some life for me. Melon, tangerines, and a touch of white grape. Gentle oak, signature JP funk. Initial is medium bodied, a bit lighter as some effervescent carbonation tackles some richer sourness, acidic lemony citrus, grapefruit, and melon. Touches of apple, oranges, and white grape. Tart and sour, as the middle shows some good touches of florals, mellow funk, sour wheaty elements. Gentle oaky tannins. Bretty funk, yeast hang on into the backend with lingering slow waves of sour fruit coming in. Favorite beer of the day. Quite lovely.
