A Belgian inspired stout that is as dark as a moonless midnight, brimming of roasted malts and bitter hops. It will keep you good company in all places, be thay light or dark.

Deep rown pour. Sweet dark fruit hits the nose . Sweet and sticky with very mild bitter finish.

Tap at Michigan Winter Beer Festival - 22-Feb-2014. My first sour stout. Deep brown with minimal head. Malty chocolate base, with the sourness you’d expect from JP. It works.

Dark, dark, but not much carb. Odd smell, deep roast but not much other flavors. Sour up front then medium stout taste in middle. Not a good finish. Good overall, but lacking true stout flavor.

Bottle, shared with Parksy and Grippitis. Very dark brwn pour with a bubbly brown head that is slow to settle. The aroma is definitively sour, with funky, spicy undertones. The palate is nicely malty, firm roast, with lovely sour and spice elements rolling over the top. There is a balance here, but the sour/funk plays the dominant role. I loved it.

Bottle. Blend 5. Nose is vanilla, smoke, slight sour apple and lemon. The taste follows; it’s very sour initially but that settles to smoke, some vanilla, some cocoa, some leather. The taste improves as it warms up from cellar temperature and gets air on it. I initially felt the sour and the stout tones ran in parallel rather than blending, but as I got further into the bottle, I found it working excellently.

Bottle @ home. New years eve. Blend 5, bottled 01-15 2013. Almost pitch black, big tan head that last, good lacing. Aroma, roasted malts, sour, dark fruits, chocolate, spices. Taste, roasted malts, sour, chocolate, coffee, dark fruits, tart. Sour roasted aftertaste. Soft carbonation.

Bottle. Dark brown with small tan head. Nose is tart fruit and oak. Not too many stout characteristics here...maybe a little chocolate. Taste is a lot of tart sourness that sticks. An interesting twist, but I wish it held some of the stoutness which is lost.

Split a 750ml bottle with badnloose. Poured a pitch black color with a pretty sizable tan head. Aroma was some Belgian spices, plums, some light spices - notes of sweet malts. Flavor was sweet malts, some roasted notes, and plenty of funky barrel type notes to it. Not overtly tart, but it sure made for an interesting brew.

Blend 2: Bottled 05JAN11 A: pours a black stout with a little over one finger of caramel head, this falls to a moderate sheet of the same. Some spotty lacing. Pretty good looker. S: Whew! Oak wins the nose here. Plenty of oak if I forgot to mention. Some chocolate notes, some licorice. Some woody alcohol. T: Some tartness up front. Some sweet cherry notes. Really not tasting like a stout at this point. Some toasted malts, and some roasty coffee. Pretty simple, and tart. Just a little more funky than I would like. M: A bit thin with moderate carb. Uber dry on the finish. O: the more I drink this, the more I wish I would have had this six months ago. This has too much tartness for my preferences in a stout. Reminds me of the early signs of Abyss ’09. No thanks. Serving type: bottle 08-10-2011

Bottle, thanks SirLimpsalot. Black with a small head. This was an interesting beer. Quite sour with licorice, red berries, salt, dark chocolate and wood. The finish was long.
