csbosox (956), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Apr 16, 2008 750ml bottle served in a Smokestack chalice. Aroma is roasty malt, cocoa, tannic oak, light sour cherries and light dark caramel. Nearly black with red tints and a three fingered khaki head. Initial taste is wood, roast, tart cherries followed by woodsy tannins and vanilla along with some fruitiness and a short lived tartness and roastiness. Is it good? yes. Would I like to drink it often? probably not. Reading the label, you get the feeling it might be harsh, with the roasted malt and bitter hops (which I don’t really get) combined with the fact you know it is going to be highly carbonated and tart/sour since it is a JP beer, but it pulls it off rather well.
mtoast (283), City of Rust, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 1, 2008 My feeble mind and palate are far to simplistic to understand this glass of liquid confusion. A bone dry "foreign stout"? My whole world has been turned upside down face. Eructoblaster (1246), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Jul 27, 2008 Bottle - 750ml. Pours an opaque black body with low carbonation and a thick beige pillowy head. Strong malty/hoppy aroma with roasty, fruity, and black chocolate hints. Sharp hoppy taste that ends with a long bitter/sour finish. DaSilky1 (1563), San Diego, California, USA Jul 22, 2008 Black pour, dark brown thin head Aroma of freshly ground Columbian coffee. Clean, Crisp, and dry coffee flavors with dry roasty notes in the finish. Some lactic tartness in the finish..very crisp, very clean, complexity is not turned on the high setting though. Cybercat (386), USA Jul 22, 2008 If you have this in a bottle, be very careful opening it because it foams like all-get-out!
Pours a rich, opaque sable with a very thick and fairly persistent dark tan head. Aroma is fairly strong and has chocolate, smoky and coffee components. Flavor is like cold coffee with some sweet fizz and an undertone of dark chocolate. There is also some apple flavor and a bit of an alcohol nip, giving the taste a cidery component. Texture is smooth but not watery. Shaftie (18), , Florida, USA Jul 14, 2008 Pours Black with a massive brown head. Flavor is tart and spice. Decent body w/ lots of CO2. Not bad, but nothing special...described in a word "odd."
