4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Served in a snifter
Appearance- like the name says, dark dawn. This one is dark as night. Very little to none head or lacing.
Aroma- at first you do pick up some stout characteristics, roasted malt, chocolate, and some of the oak from the barrel aging. Ounce you get your nose closer and smell you pick up the tart, dark fruit, sour notes.
Taste - I picked up some semi sweet malt, dark fruits like raisins, plums, black berries, and raspberries, pretty much giving you that tartness. Almost like a Belgium Quad or double that got some bacteria in it making it sour.
Mouthfeel- medium bodied with hardly any carbonation.
Overall - i thought it was great. Reminded me of Monks Cafe Sour Red ale. I would definitly recommend as long as you know your not getting a stout.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap @ Jolly Pumpkin: Looks like squidís ink outlined by a small trace of ecru foam around the very top. Aroma loaded with heavy black cherry skins, tannin, wet oak, funky critter notes, lacto sourness, mild vinegar & acetic sharpness, perfume, lemon, & some red grape. Sharp sweet tart flavor up front, very tart. Even more than expected. Lemon, lacto yeast, dark cherries, oaky tannins, musty oak, moldy cotton funk, & a ripping cherry skin dryness in the back-end. Leaves some balsamic vinegar notes lingering in the aftertaste with a moderate acetic & acidic burn, but not enough to hinder things too much. Really, not many of the stout characteristics come through. Almost more like a really dark Flanders Red. Maybe a hint of roastiness, but the focus here is more on the sour vinegar & cherry notes. Nice stuff.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours clear dark brown (nearly black) with one fat finger of medium tan head, good retention and lacing. (4/5) Nose is complex, vinous dark fruit, coffee, chocolate, earthy funk. (8/10) Taste is mild sweet, moderate tart, faint bitter. (8/10) Medium body, moderate carbonation, drying tart finish. (4/5)
Well, first and foremost: calling this a ďstoutĒ is pretty misleading. Itís most definitely a sour, albeit a dark one with coffee and chocolate tones. Thatís not to say itís aggressively sour, because it isnít (although it does open up and get a little more emphatic as it warms). And it is goo-ood. (16/20)

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pitch black with a dense one-finger head and ok lace. Dark fruit aromas dominate with a modest infusion of coffee and cocoa. Flavor is similar, as dark fruit sourness predominates - mostly black cherry and tart apple - with gentle hops bitterness in the background. Full body, minimal carbonation, silky mouthfeel and a puckishly sour finish. There are black IPAs, why shouldnít there be black sours?

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
This beer pours a very dark brown color with a small tan head, and the aroma blends sour dark fruit, roasted malts, and dark chocolate. The taste isnít a traditional stout due to the heavy sour presence, but there is an underlying touch of umami and a slight bitterness. The palate fuses a lively carbonation, slick texture, and a light body.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured from bomber. Pours dark brown almost black with a thin tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, with cocoa, tart cherries, dried plums, light licorice and yeasty funk. Flavor starts off roasted malt and dark chocolate followed with sour fruity flavors of tart cherries, berries, and prunes that carries through the finish of coffee roastiness and yeasty earthiness. Nice Brew but a bomber for one person is a bit much, should have split it.

3.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: NOV 29, 2014 Good sour. Not a stout the way you expect. It may be brewed in that style but donít expect a coffee rich chocolate stout. Slight fruit. Carbonation it?s great and helps make it. Would not do a Full bottle.
