jason (1510), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 26, 2007 Bottle. Thanks to moejuck and punkrkr27 for sending me this one. Dark brown body with nice head. Aroma is a really nice roasted malt with a small sour feel, wood. Flavor is of sweet malt with a funky sour taste, tart. A well balanced sugary flavor. Perfect mouthfeel - this really awakened my tastebuds. As it warmed the barrel again really started to make an appearance. As it warmed more it becomes very vinious and takes on a more wine like state. A nice take on the style.
bdigi66 (475), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA Nov 28, 2008 Bottle: Light black pour with a large, tan, rocky head. Dark roasted malts, candied sugar, nutty, oak and some subtle lactic qualities noted in the nose...heavily carbonated yet somewhat silky body...flavor has notes of oak, dark malts, candied sugar and finishes with a subtle sourness. Very good brew and one of my favorite stouts. jimhilt (1469), Bow, New Hampshire, USA Nov 20, 2008 Explodes out of bottle five+ finger, thick, rocky brown head that takes forever to fade leaving a good lace. Totally black color. Good carbonation, heavy bodied. Roasted coffee nose. Flavor is roasted coffee and chocolate, the hops are balanced by the malts. Keeps well (at least several months). Pricey at $14.95 a 750ml bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, MA .
jstraw (522), Oak Park, Illinois, USA Nov 20, 2008 Black with big, foamy cappuccino head / Sour nose of green apple, cigar box, and roast coffee / Medium body, tart and acidic, with good balance and hops on the excellent finish / Flavors of green apples, cherries, dark roast coffee, cigar box, and bittersweet chocolate / More brewing genius from JP. presario (2498), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Nov 18, 2008 Thin brown lasting head held up by steady rising streams of small bubbles. Black beer. Huge dusty aroma like breathing cocoa and coffee dust carried on an alcohol cloud. Expecting the biggest chocolate coffee stout ever and you are surprised by a wine-like chocolate coffee beer. 3/4 stout 1/4 wine. Chocolate and coffee seem overwhelmed by the wine. It’s a black wine! Cool and unique but I still want to try the beer my nose told me I was going to drink. smith4498 (413), Miami, Florida, USA Nov 2, 2008 Batch #266. Pours black with huge brown head. Aromas of roasted malts, chocolate and sourness. Similar flavors with a dry finish. Medium body with lively carbonation. Decent beer.
