A Belgian inspired stout that is as dark as a moonless midnight, brimming of roasted malts and bitter hops. It will keep you good company in all places, be thay light or dark.

Nose if sour. Thanks Dan. Infected. Tart in the nose. Tart in the taste. Ok. But the roast and sour clash. Lots of wine and vinegar.

This one is odd but good. Roasted malt aroma with some lactic sourness and some funk and an oaky woody smell. Taste is the same. 75% funky sour. Not that sour, maybe 2 of 10. Barnyard funkyness is odd in the stout. Weird smoky woody "sour" bitter dry finish, but the sour is band aid funk in the finish. Aroma is better than the flavor. Flavor has some real weird qualities but it is complex and an interesting beer. But not pucker sour, nothing like The Bruery Tart of Darkness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Murky black pour with a small orange/brown head. Aromas are roasted malts, fruity dark chocolate and must. Flavors are similar but with a base sweetness that detracts. The silky and frothy body is easy drinking. Complex and pretty tasty, but I think I like my funky beers a little lighter.

Belgian inspired stout, oak aged, bottle conditioned, roasty malts and bitter hops. Funny how you get your expectations set and then... As I poured there was little head and the nose was like balsamic. Even after that I was shocked at the first sip--nothing on the bottle said sour--and didnít like it immediately. Shifted gears and evaluated it as a sour and think itís OK. I canít call it a stout though.

750 mL bottle. Looks like a stout with no head. Smells like a sour. Taste is mouth puckeringly sour. It tastes like a stout for a fraction of a second before the sourness hits, and at the end there is a lingering hint of roast. Good beer, but itís not a stout.

Merveilleux! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap @ Jolly Pumpkin: Looks like squidís ink outlined by a small trace of ecru foam around the very top. Aroma loaded with heavy black cherry skins, tannin, wet oak, funky critter notes, lacto sourness, mild vinegar & acetic sharpness, perfume, lemon, & some red grape. Sharp sweet tart flavor up front, very tart. Even more than expected. Lemon, lacto yeast, dark cherries, oaky tannins, musty oak, moldy cotton funk, & a ripping cherry skin dryness in the back-end. Leaves some balsamic vinegar notes lingering in the aftertaste with a moderate acetic & acidic burn, but not enough to hinder things too much. Really, not many of the stout characteristics come through. Almost more like a really dark Flanders Red. Maybe a hint of roastiness, but the focus here is more on the sour vinegar & cherry notes. Nice stuff.

Probably a good beer but i hated the sour taste. Maybe for someone else. A friend liked it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Jolly Pumpkin. Heavily sour with slight malty balance. Very light bodied. Unique. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours clear dark brown (nearly black) with one fat finger of medium tan head, good retention and lacing. (4/5) Nose is complex, vinous dark fruit, coffee, chocolate, earthy funk. (8/10) Taste is mild sweet, moderate tart, faint bitter. (8/10) Medium body, moderate carbonation, drying tart finish. (4/5) Well, first and foremost: calling this a ďstoutĒ is pretty misleading. Itís most definitely a sour, albeit a dark one with coffee and chocolate tones. Thatís not to say itís aggressively sour, because it isnít (although it does open up and get a little more emphatic as it warms). And it is goo-ood. (16/20)

Pitch black with a dense one-finger head and ok lace. Dark fruit aromas dominate with a modest infusion of coffee and cocoa. Flavor is similar, as dark fruit sourness predominates - mostly black cherry and tart apple - with gentle hops bitterness in the background. Full body, minimal carbonation, silky mouthfeel and a puckishly sour finish. There are black IPAs, why shouldnít there be black sours?
