Nose if sour. Thanks Dan. Infected. Tart in the nose. Tart in the taste. Ok. But the roast and sour clash. Lots of wine and vinegar.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured from bomber. Pours dark brown almost black with a thin tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, with cocoa, tart cherries, dried plums, light licorice and yeasty funk. Flavor starts off roasted malt and dark chocolate followed with sour fruity flavors of tart cherries, berries, and prunes that carries through the finish of coffee roastiness and yeasty earthiness. Nice Brew but a bomber for one person is a bit much, should have split it.

3.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: NOV 29, 2014 Good sour. Not a stout the way you expect. It may be brewed in that style but don’t expect a coffee rich chocolate stout. Slight fruit. Carbonation it?s great and helps make it. Would not do a Full bottle.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aroma is dark cherry, sour tartiness, and yeastiness. Taste is apple, cherry and light sweet malts with a light creaminess. The tartiness is strog but not overpowering. Finishes with a puckering taste. Not much bitterness or hop profile detected. Appearance is a black body with a thin pearl head that retains fairly poorly.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
750 ml bottle into snifter, bottled on 2/13/2013. Pours pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tart cherry, green apple, lemon, raisin, plum, dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, dark bread, licorice, light char, hay, straw, grass, oak, musty funk, and yeast/roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/funky yeast, dark/roasted malt, and oak barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of tart cherry, green apple, lemon, raisin, plum, dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, dark bread, licorice, light char, hay, straw, grass, oak, musty funk, and yeast/roasted earthiness. Fair amount of roasted bitterness and light tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of cherry, green apple, lemon, raisin, plum, dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, light char, dark bread, licorice, hay, grass, oak, funk, and yeast/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity and robustness of fruity/funky yeast, dark/roasted malt, and oak barrel flavors; with a great malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, fairly creamy, and lightly acidic/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome Belgian sour stout. All around great complexity and balance of fruity/funky yeast, dark/roasted malt, and oak barrel flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A highly enjoyable offering.

"definitely has that JP house character, but this keg has some extra age and conditioning on it, making it even more funky & sour than usual. interesting interplay with the darker, dark fruity malts for sure. not something I could drink a ton of, but quite good in smaller doses."
