Commercial Description:
A rich brown ale inspired by the enigmatic monastic brews of Belgium, and the mysterious mist shrouded jungles of the tropics. Brewed with real cacao, and spiced with cinnamon and sweet orange peel for a sensual delight. A brew to be sipped, savored, and enjoyed!

Bottle. Is there a JP ale that isn’t wonderful? If you can get past the description on the back of the label without either laughing or drooling, this is a very unique, awesome beer. I was tasting the cacao (I love saying that) for several minutes afterward.

Sampled during Minnesota first annual Sourfest and shared by Stein. Pours a semi-clear reddish brown brew with an average tan head that slowly dissipates to a thin tan ring and film top. Aroma of tart cherries, light brown sugar, some lemon zest, and grapefruit. Taste is medium to full bodied, some light carbonation with flavors of Belgian yeast, some candi sugar, tart cherries, and a touch of orange. Finish has a mild tartness, a little cloves with a lingering yeast funk aftertaste.

Many thanks Stine for sharing this delicacy. A lightly sour nose with belgian candy sugar. Hazy brown with minimal head. Slight citrus and plenty of cocoa in this lightly soured gem.

Ruby red/brown pour with tan head and lace. Aroma of brown sugar and sour cherries. Flavor of sour cherries and lite malt a light to medium bitter finsih. Full bodied with good carbonation. A beer that may have slipped into the sour ale side but I would buy a case if I could. Pretty damn special.

Scored this gem during the Secret Santa in July 2008. Thanks Saint Nick! 750ml bottle (batch 254) pours a translucent maple brow with a thin white head and plenty of small, tight bubbles. Aroma is very sour, lemony, definitely some serious Brett, Belgian yeast and sticky, tropical fruits. Flavor is nice, very tart, cherries, oranges, a little grapefruit, white grapes. Very strong brettanomyces flavor components including that funky, band aid like flavor. Finish is a little chalky, medium bodied with extra carbonation. I enjoyed this alot, very unique. Reminded me a bit of a sour Flanders red ale. Wish I had more to cellar.
