4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 beermatrix (1497) - Twin Cities, USA - JUL 1, 2005
Dark plummy crimson with a finely set medium cap of light tan foam sitting perfectly stretched like canvas. Lacing keeps a small curtain close to the top and a few smaller ink stains scattered about. Keeps a solid skim maintaining that nice canvas effect.
Sublimely delicate and complex nose on this one. I want to say its Chistmasy, but that just ain’t it. Close though. More like a ginger bread cookie with a subdued nature to its charm. Cocoa dashed prunes and raisins make the mix with a durable presence along with some dates, figs, and feathery pepperyness. A peculiar earthy-like dryness is drawn through the fruity coating as is a bit of fresh red licorice.
Taste is right on cue with the darker fruityness. And again, we find some nice complexities that are delicately woxen into a farbic of forever feathery dryness and fruits. Very nice interaction of fig, date, raisin and cocoa with a earthen, woody spiced, peppery red licorice and dark baking sugars. Soft and palatable the whole way through. Banana slices at the finish with a touch of cinnamon as it drys off with touches of the drying spices. A delicately nice taster.
Body is at the medium soft level with a fluffyness that comes close to encountering a chalkyness but not quite as the dryness just creates its own weather around your tongue with just the right amount so not to snap any trees, drench any ditches, or parch any sandy beaches along the way.
A fine, fine ale. Jolly Pumpkin will be the Midwests’ Allagash.

Description: Bière ambrée avec une blanche-beige durable.
Note: 7+/10

(75 cl dans deux verres. Merci Yan!) Batch 937.

LOVE THIS. JP is becoming one of my favorite brewers. Aroma of chocolate, spices, funk, citrus, and spices. Taste is mild tartness and light funk with a chocolatey roasted backbone.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 JanLaursen (1123) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - MAY 21, 2012
Draught at CBC. Presented as ABV 6,1, Hazy dark reddish amber, small off-white head. Aroma is caramel, light sourness, oak, fresh dark fruits. Flavor is fruity, malty sweetness, dry herbal hops, kinda dusty, tart finish. Rather light body - I am a little disappointed, I have come to expect a lot from Jolly Pumpkin, this wasn’t up to standard.

Bottle @ Haand festival.
Pour murky brown, with no head.
Aroma is slightly funky and slightly hoppy. Pretty standard in my opinion.
Taste is slightly bitter. Average body, with an average carb.
