On draft. Dark brown color with one finger white head. Cherry and Bourbon aroma. Taste is sour. Smells like a Belgian, but tastes like a sour. Very different.

Old rating. Nice spiced Belgian. Light brown/dark orange colored. Big funk, fruit, spice in the nose. The yeast and brett show up in the taste, but still lots of fruit, raisins, cherry, and oak. Medium bodied.

Cloudy brown tinged with orange gold. Slight tan head. Funky, deep fruit notes. Some molasses sweetness, quite sour, touch of spiciness. Pretty strongly acidic. Fair amount of alcohol. Medium body. Slightly oily. Quite good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

750 ml bottle. Pours a slightly cloudy dark orange/brown with off-white edge head. Aroma is lactic and hoppy, with notes of oak. Flavor is sour, with citrus notes and mild malt. Dry citrusy finish with slight lactic tang. From notes 1/23/10 (Geist Dark Lord tasting).

Color a medium brown with a bit of red. A pretty good head when poured though it settles out fairly quickly. The aroma has an intriguing fruitiness to it, along with some oaky spiciness. The fruit and oak spice are apparent in the taste as well, though the fruit has a fairly distinct sour aspect to it. Some sweetness as well, due at least in part to the 9% alcohol. Medium body (that is for a stout lover like me). Fairly long finish. Overall a very good beer. It has an intriguing set of flavors that hold your interest for a good while.

Bottle from Brown Derby Springfield. It poured a hazy brown color with an off-white head. The aroma was of malts, yeast, brett, some sugar, oak and a touch of vinegar. The taste was of malt, yeast, brett, oak, sugar, a little sourness, some vinegar, oak and white grapes. Different.

Green capped 750 ml bottle from Gator Beverage, Batch 165, 167, 172, 174, dated 10/23/13 poured into Unibroue tulip on 5/12/14. Pours opaque brown that turns a bright ruby color when held up in the light. Big fluffy off white head that lingers for a good while. Aroma is sour cherries, some dark fruit, light spice, oak. I was expecting something different but this smells excellent. The flavor is chocolate covered cherries, light spices, a hint of balsamic vinegar, dry oaky finish. Sweet around the edges of the tongue. Medium bodied with effervescent carbonation. Goes down pretty easy. I really didn’t know what to expect from this brew, but it is really nice and seems pretty unique. I would have this again.

Bottle 2012. Nose is wet wheat, lemon and horse blanket, slight sherry. The nose is nice without being outstanding, little of the xmas tones expected. Taste is good sour, wheat, a little nutmeg leading to cloves. As the taste develops through the bottle there are slight salt tones and white chocolate in the finish. It’s decent, but seemed very lightly spiced for a Christmas beer and lacked the very high standards of usual JP.

Bottle blend 14, 2012-11-15. Dark reddish brown with a small tan head. Red wine, wood, light tannins, black cherries, black berries, leather, tobacco, iron like acidity, light lactic. Medium/full body, oily texture, medium carbonation, medium sweet and light/medium sour. Good complexity and balance.
