Pours to a mostly clear light brown with a medium light tan colored head. The aroma is sour plums, sour cherry, bits of aged oak, and hints of caramel hidden in the background. Taste initially hits with a medium sour flavor of citrus, lime, sour red wine-soaked oak, then shows a cherry acidity, caramel, and light hints of pepper. Finishes with a sour red wine & caramel flavor. Medium bodied, light carbonation, feels very crisp in the mouth.

FoBAB 2008 offering: #808 - The sole entry at FoBAB from Jolly Pumpkin. Very dark pour, blackish with brown edges and a small head that remains. Lighter sour, a touch of oak, but largely dark fruits and a nice belgian yeasty spice. Raisins and light bready malt sweetness in the finish. Interesting, unique, "Christmas-y".

Bottle at Fobab VI. Was a bit disappointed that there wasn’t more JP at Fobab, but this one was nice. Not particularly sour, had some sour candy notes and poured dark brown-red. Spicy and reasonably dry. Would love to try more JP, not sure why I’ve not had more. This is distinctly a Christmas beer, though. No alcohol really comes through. Mostly though, this one is yeasty and spicy. Nice enough.

UPDATED: JAN 14, 2012 07 (blend 2) pours dark ruby with a pink-white head. Nose is rather soft and of sour cherry, urine, citrus, and a little sweet spice balancing it out. Very carbonated, yeasty and spicy, a little sour, the flavor comes off rather conflicted. Decent beer, but not cohesive or complex.

Wonderful version of oaking, aged an extra year in my cellar. Reddish colour, Belgian Flemish sour aroma. Medium plus mouthfeel. Delicious,cherry-ish. Very drinkable.

batch 331 from a 750 mL bottle - not-quite-clear ruddy brown, chestnut color. JP house notes of acid and red wine, discernible oak, and rich caramel malts. some spiciness, but seems more due to yeast than actual spices (cinnamon and nutmeg). slight astringency and not as full-bodied as 9% would suggest; it’s extraordinarily dry and easy to drink. dry and tart finish, acid lingering and a warming alcohol presence. excellent.

Bottle: Poured a deep reddish/brown color ale with a large foamy head with great retention and great lacing. Aroma of oak with some tart notes and maybe light cherry notes as well though that may originate from the oak. Taste is very complex and is dominated by some oak notes with some tart and sour notes also easily detectable. Full body with great carbonation and no trace of alcohol could be detected. This beer was very well done by one of the best US brewer of sour beers.

Bottle. Earthy, funky, mildly sour. A twinge of chocolate and coffee. Smooth and subtle. Nice.

Straw and fresh ground coffee beans hidden underneath cobweb covered earthy funkiness. YES!, that’s what this big dark fully headed beer puts forth into the air. The carbonation is prickly. The mouth is nice and tart. The flavors are firmly malty with coffee frinds and tart grape. and funk. Yes, this was my favorite Jolly Pumpkin beer yet.

Pours with a dark amber hue that sits below an off white head. The head has good longevity. The aroma is of barnyard funk, yeast, wood, and bread. There is a bit of a sour aroma to the beer as well/ The flavor is sour initially, with a nutty/bitter taste at the finish. Overall this beer tastes a little like champagne. Dry to the palate, with fizzy carbonation.
