Poured a rich mahoghany hue. Creamy head that lingered for a while. Earthy tones with a slight acetic smell. Tastes of cherries and only a bit of sour in the form of lemon. Nice winter warmer.

750 ml, bottled 11-15-2012, shared by Mmahut at RB Tasting Vienna March Edition. Thanks!
Dark copper body, with a tiny, creamy, beige head.
Aroma of red wine, barnyard, dark and dried fruits, barrel notes.
Taste is more tart, with about the same aromas, but with the oak barrel more present.
Quite light, slick mouthfeel, with an average carbonation.
Finishes tart, wine like, with long-lasting, dry oak notes.

Tasty! Much more a Sour Red/Brown in my opinion. Pleasant wine and barrel notes, with a nice fruitiness, but also tart. Really enjoyable, luxurious, quite heavy beer.

Bottle. Batch 14, year 2012. Aroma bretty, basement, fruity, barnyard. Hazy brown colour. Taste hits you with pretty intense sourness up front, which is soon replaced by spices, cinammon, badyan. Very good, surprises by the layered taste and quite harmonic overall impression.

Alengrin (2879) - BELGIUM - FEB 14, 2015
Belgian-inspired Christmas beer, 2012 vintage. Creamy, pale beige, lacing head, slow gushing even, relatively stable; colour a deep purplish wine red, hazy to completely cloudy as the bottle progresses, eventually completely opaque and ’muddy’, looking like an Irish coffee having been standing somewhere for too long. Calm sparkling, yellowish chunks of proteins here and there. Very ’oud bruin’-like aroma (’Flemish red’) of blackcurrant, elderberry, caramel, passion fruit, balsamic vinegar, dry red wine, oak, hazelnut oil, old sherry, sour yoghurt, hints of chocolate, dried ginger, figs in ’jenever’, sour cherries, toasted bread, goat cheese, leather and wet hay. Estery onset, fruity in a crisp, sourish way, strong lactic acidity with drying effect almost from the start, light candi sweetishness balancing a bit, medium carbonation, smooth and slightly resinous mouthfeel, nutty and caramelly malts with a faint chocolatey and equally faint toasted touch, yeasty spiciness, long drying finish of the lactic sourness continuing all the way through, accompanied by dry oaky tannins and a faint leafy hoppiness for mere structure, not really bittering, as is custom in sour beers; a hint of subtle, brandy-like, warming alcohol appears after all of this, reminding you of the fact that this is 9% ABV and therefore a lot stronger than the average Flemish red. I forgot to look at the ABV first, honestly speaking, and consumed it like I would consume a ’simple’ Rodenbach - a mistake I will not make again. Stood the test of time quite well, as sour beers usually do; this kind of beers are the living proof that you do not need to be in Belgium to brew Flemish sour ales. Interesting.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy brown with thick frothy beige head that lasts. The aroma is oak, cherry skin and spice. Thin mouthfeel with tart cherry, oak, light spice, really enjoyed this.
