3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
S: Boozy. Spicy. some clove in there.
A: The beer looks great being a semi dark brown color. The carbonation is playful however is also a downfall of the beer. This is way over carbonated and a gentle pour yields an explosive head.
T: Alcohol comes through a lot as does a sourness. The sour works well with other aspects such as the spiciness. A good sweetness. I like the blend between spices and other aspects.
P: Medium body, average texture perhaps a little aggressive due to the carbonation. Good in short sips, bad is you let it linger.
O: A solid beer. A good balance of spice and sour. Worth grabbing.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
750ml bottle at Little Miss Whiskey’s in DC. Pours a murky brown with some creamy, white head. Nose has a mix of things, some cooked greens, some dried citrus pith, a little bit of spice, some mild malt, almost like stale bread, a little fruit cake, some raisin. Flavor has that typical JP tartness, a little lemony, light vinegar, pithy, mild malt, raisin, some cracker. Tart finish.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours brown with off white, fluffy head. Good lacing. Aroma is like a funky, woody Belgian ale. Flavor is malty, slightly roasted and/or smoky flavor. It’s tart, and combined with the roasted flavor makes it a bit different than other Jolly Pumpkin ales. But not too different. It’s very drinkable for 9% abv, as well. Excellent and I would buy again.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
2012) (963-080114)

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 10/20/2011. Pours slightly hazy deep ruby red color with a 2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of strawberry, cherry, green apple, raisin, orange zest, caramel, toast, oak, clove, nutmeg, pepper, hay, grass, herbal, light funk, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, oak, and spice notes; with good strength. Taste of strawberry, tart cherry, green apple, orange zest, raisin, caramel, toast, nutmeg, clove, oak, pepper, hay, grass, light funk, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Light fruity tartness/spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of strawberry, cherry, green apple, orange zest, raisin, caramel, toast, nutmeg, clove, pepper, hay, grass, herbal, light funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, oak, and spice flavors; with a nice balance of fruit/spiciness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, crisp, and lightly prickly mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice Belgian dark ale. All around nice balance and complexity of yeast, oak, and spice flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
