Aroma and appearance well above average. Thought I was in for a good one, but it had a sour flavor to it. Sort of like a sour/brown ale hybrid.

750ml bottle served in a Unibroue snifter {from notes). Batch 626. Bottled 9-29-2010. A strong pssst upon opening, and some beer may have been loss in foamy overflow had I not had my glass ready at hand. Pours a very dark brown with reddish highlights. A large, foamy/creamy beige head starts a bit pillowy, and gradually settles to a full covering, leaving gobs of sticky lacing on the glass. Aroma: The rich and complex aroma is woodsy, spicy, fruity and boozy; sweet but with a hint of tart too. Seems every bit of 9% ABV if not higher, but pleasant and inviting nonetheless. T: Mildly tart and bitter from start to finish, but has some sweet fruit too. A bit spicy, including white pepper, nutmeg, salt and allspice with some oak. M: medium-full bodied; near creamy smooth; rather high carbonation that works very well. Some warming from the alcohol both in the mouth and on the way further down. O: A delicious Christmas beer that remains quite enjoyable on this early summer night. True to style; in this case meaning this could pass for a fine Belgian brew but has its own distinct sensory profile.

Muted strong belgian ale like quad. Excellent dark color with roasted redness. Strong sore taste for style upfront, then beer fades slowly.

750ml bottle shared @Brasserie 4:20 (Rome), thanks Dino! Pours brown/chestnut honey with a medium to light head. Aroma is vinous, mild funky, toffee, ripe fruits, chestnut, alcol notes. Flavour is medium sweet with a nice sour end, well balanced. High body, medium carbonation, a bit fizzy. Nice winter beer!

750 mL bottle at Dan's Downtown Tavern in Saline. The pour is a dark mahogany with a thin cap of tan head and no lace left behind. The aroma is different. There is a light sour funk and a gold fruit that is pretty good. There is a nice blackberry or blueberry. The flavor is sour up front with a dark fruit and a strong maltiness that kind of hides the sour and funk. There is a light malt on the back end that is well received. The mouth feel is a little soft with a sharp light carbonation and a lingeringly funky finish. Not too bad ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap, poured into a tulip. The aroma is reminiscent of a dutch, sour apple pie with secondary wood notes, and some late fig and bread crust emerging as it warms. Its a brilliant, clear, deep caramel orange hue with a light, dense, white head that has a low amount of retention and a low amount of lace. A really nice, medium bitter, sweet, and sour balance. The texture is a bit on the thick side of oil with a light, zippy carbonation and a medium full body thats tart with notes of caramel apple pie, sour cherries, and a strong spice as well as secondary notes of slight citrus zest, oak, and a touch of coffee as it warms. The finish starts with a very brief, syrupy and burnt caramel but turns to a zesty spice and oak with a brief character of fig. Its dry and astringent with an aftertaste of bread crust, apple pie, fresh fig, citrus, and a late hint of chocolate. Quite clean for such a big beer.

Yeah it's a bit Boozier than I would like it to be, but it's still pretty decent. Might try again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
