This is absolutely superb. Sort of a beautiful holiday ale, with just the right amount of funk to add intrigue.

Pours a very nice dark amber with unfiltered characteristics. Aromas are spice and funk with even bready malts. Taste is nicely funky with mild spice and quite a nice line of burnt caramel. Palate is even and effervescent. Overall a solid beer that breaks the mold on holiday ales.

Lukter kirsebær. Mørk farve og godt med skum. Smaker som fruktvin med tydelig eikepreg. Melkebaren.

In short: A chaotic semi-sour, semi-sweet, semi-funky and strangely herbal-spicy dark ale.
How: Bottle 750ml. Not too sure about the age, consumed 2 months after receiving it from sarro, thanks a lot Kyle.
The look: Cloudy burgundy body with many small particles, large beige head with medium retention and leaving lots of lacings on the glass.
In long: Nose has some of the signature Jolly Pumpkin funk along with sage, oak, unusual spiciness, herbs of all kinds. This sure is a intriguing aroma. Taste is a big mix-bag of stuff, hazelnuts, mild-medium sourness, caramel, funk, strange spiciness, pecan pie, sweet orange peels, plenty of fresh herbs, ripe berries, more… A whole lot of flavors, this is not a boring beer, but it is also a bit messy, far from a harmonious beer. I found the beer to moderately enjoyable but I expect more harmonious beers from Jolly Pumpkin. I was slightly disappointed. There’s a thin line between a complex beer and a messy beer. complex beer messy beer
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Steve_0 (1395) - Denver, Colorado, USA - FEB 2, 2013
Bottle at home with friends, courtesy of André. Thanks man! Pour is murky brown with a slight red tint and small cream head. Herbal, slightly sour aroma, juniper, light caramel, wood, and pine needles in the aroma. Taste is somewhat tart, herbal, juniper, light spice, caramel, oak, and nutty with a lightly tart finish. Medium body with low carbonation. Not bad, and definitely the best of the three.

Pour out of 22 oz bottle, thick dark red pour with off white head, aroma brought notes of juniper, tart fruits, some herbal notes, slight oak, hints of caramel, touch of earth, lots of spices odd. Taste is a mix of sweet caramel, toffee, touch of juniper and herbal notes, finishing fairly tart. Odd.

Bottle @ Stephen’s house thanks to André! Pours a cloudy brown appearance with a moderate, light brown head. A touch minty, spicy green weedy, juniper, a bit funky aroma. Spice rack, juniper, grassy/weedy, weird citrus fruity, lightly tart flavor. Not my favorite but fun to try.

Tap. Pours clear ruby amber with a medium tan head that dissipates quickly with some lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, molasses, herbs, light spices, light dried fruit. Initial aroma is slightly tart, but that fades as the beer breathes. Flavor is the same, medium sweet with a bit of tartness, lightly astringent. Notes of orange zest and light spices. Medium sweet and creamy. Nice enough.
