Artisan Golden Ale. Ale aged in oak barrels. Barrel aged & bottle conditioned. Aged in large oak casks and refermented in the bottle. Oro de Calabaza is brewed in the Franco-Belgian tradition of special golden ales. Spicy and peppery with a gentle hop bouquet and the beguiling influence of wild yeast. Please enjoy our beers in good health, Cheers and Mahalo plenty!

Bottle share from friend. Very pale in color, taste is initially very golden/blonde, but yeast and other elements start to make this a heavier ale. Syrupy consistency, definite Belgian yeast character, but without the pit fruit elements in a lot of the strong ales.

Tap at the brewpub, Detroit. Pours lemon yellow, light ring of white head. Aroma is lemon, clove, sour note, lightly oaky, some Belgian spices. Really pleased with this. Flips back and forth with the sour and sweetness. Excellent.

Pours yellow and clean, low white head. Aroma of tart fruits, grapes, apples and pineapple too plus hint of oak. In taste tart, fruity (pineapple and tart fruitts) with some barnyard notes too. In the finish medium sour with nice oaky and low sweet finish. Very balanced, not too sour, very refreshing amd tasty.

Backlog. Shared bottle of batch 463 at Mi2 at Cardinal 06.05.13. Pale golden, almost clear. Aroma of gueze. Taste is sour at first, then more balanced, but still with some acid. There is more hops and sweetness in aftertaste, but still with sourness. Medium to dry mouthfeel. High drinkability.

Draft at Kasey’s Tavern. Hazy yellow pour. Thin head. Served ice cold. Kind of sour malty aroma. Sherry vinegar and light funky yeast as well. Bright acidity up front, creamy wheatty middle, fermented apricot, solid oakiness, black pepper. Good sour grassy finish. Well made.

Flaska från whole foods New York. Disig gul vätska med vitt skum. Syrlig och fräsch doft. Citron, gräs och lite funk. Ganska stallig och pepprig smak med citron, hö, ceder och äpplekart. Syrlig med fin torr avslutning

UPDATED: NOV 14, 2015 A hazy honey-ish yellow with a big, foamy head that goes away quickly and threatens a much more vigorous palate than what actually comes. The nose is fruity esters in the foreground (grapes, green apples, just a bit of pineapple), spiced up by zesty Brett, mineraly yeast, a bit of old wood, a suggestion of booze, and even a dash of herbs. As the glass goes shallow, honey and caramel come to life too. The mouthfeel is medium and smooth, with constant but unintrusive carbonation and a medium-to-thin body. The taste is more tart than not, with minor mineraly bitterness and minor citrusy sweetness. Towards the end it turns drier, with notes of lemon zest and yeast. Not my go-to type of beer, but it is interesting, refreshing (at least initially), and deceivingly impairing.

Pours hazy golden with tall white head. Aroma of elderflower, gooseberry, green apples, light green grapes, light citrus. Taste is mellow balanced apple tart with a lightly sweet, smooth finish. Light, crisp body with soft carbonation. Maybe not exceptional in any way, but incredibly well balanced and oh so very drinkable!
